Long narrow pub packed full of 40 and 50 year olds on the pull. Beer is GK and my pint of IPA was distinctly average, as is the pub in general

Greene King so no further comment necessary on the beer or cider. Very good for a cheap lunch though - two people including drinks under 30. The central area is always full of "Weatherspoonians" which can be very off-putting. If you don't set your expectations too high can be a laugh in the evening at weekends but always very full and the bouncers on the door give the "atmosphere" away a bit.

Looks good from the outside but very bland and plastic inside. Bitter is awful so would not bother if you like your ale, much better choices around town.

This pub has just been refurbished and it now looks as it should - a town centre pub with a small restaurant at the back. It still has its all day drinkers but the staff are very good and friendly and the food is quite good and cheap especially for lunch.
Worth a visit, especially in the winter when its dark wood cosiness is more appealing.

It looks more attractive and promising from its outside appearance - especially for visitors to the town - but it is rather a disappointment once inside. Potentially this could be a cracking boozer but on my last handful of visits there were loud and drunk all day drinkers hogging the central area of its narrow area. I have never worked out quite what this pub wants to be since first drinking here in the late 1970's when it was like drinking in a 1950's front parlour. It's a bit of a shame really as its location is just about the best in town. That said, it is a popular place for the younger (and those who refuse to grow up) on weekend evenings so it must have something going for it.

This is an OK pub. Drink prices are very reasonable in a town where they are generally extremely high. Not a good pub when it is packed as being long and narrow there is nowhere to stand or sit without being in the way of someone trying to get past. It can also get quite "chavvy" at weekends but if that is your thing then fine.

A long narrow pub which is typically Green King in it's apperance. This being comfortable and well kept. Standard GK beers on tap with a wide range of alternative drinks on offer. I was reasonably impressed with the new menu and the service was very prompt and friendly. The regulars are a good laugh. worth a visit.
