Visited Monday Sept 14th 2015 and was surprised how busy it was but its a great looking and friendly pub so there's the answer.
We didn't eat but the food looked good, the beer range was decent with Branscombe Vale Branoc, Branscombe Vale Summa That, and Otter Bitter, only tried the first two but they were very nice.
This pub is well worth a visit.

lets start with the positives: the staff are friendly, attentive and helpful.
Lovely old interior and superb if not rather pricey food.
Real ale range is"nt overly imaginative or interesting but is very well kept.
However .... we went in the dining room which was more like a crèche.
Babies and toddlers in abundance and the staff offering use of highchairs.
We elected to sit in the bar to avoid the noise.
The only table was by the door.
Every time someone came in or out there was an icy blast of air.
Come on guys. Surely a pub is an adult environment ?
Its annoying when you have to suffer other people badly behaived kids when all
you want is a chat, a drink and something to eat.

Kilmington is truely blessed to have two very decent pubs in their village.
The Old inn is equally as good as the New inn up the road.
Inside is a cosy place with different bar areas and a huge fireplace.
Good selection of ales on and our lunchtime food was very good indeed.
It is a little on the pricey side but on the whole i thought it was worth it.
Very handy right on the a A35 as well.

A very nice pub indeed, probably more "dry" than "wet" though a drinker feels welcome. The local ale drinkers fill up the front bar and are most welcoming. The back bars are roomier and tends to be where tourists eat. The menu is probably two pounds more than average but that is to be fully expected in a thatched pub with well worn flagstone flooring. I thought on my visit how typical it wasof a Good Pub Guide entry and very top end for a G.B.G. entry. My bill was wriong purely by accident and the apologies were genuine. On the A35 and the first decent pub after leaving Dorset. A bit harsh but an 8/10.

A fine old, traditional thatched coaching Inn on the main A35 near Axminster (which is pretty much devoid of a decent pub at the time of writing). The Old Inn has a large carpark and the pub interior is thankfully pretty much unspoilt with a seperate locals bar and a restaurant bar. The staff are helpful, friendly and efficient.
A good range of well-kept beers including Otter Bitter and Ale and Butcombe Blonde a 'premium' bitter served fizzy - like lager, but tasty. There is also Monterey which is brewed especially for the pub and was named after a specimen tree in the village by straw poll of the locals. I thought it was fairly unremarkable personally.
The pub runs various specials nights (curry/italian/moules/burger/steak etc) and the occasional beer festival, all of which are very popular.
The garden outside is a nice suntrap in summer and large enough to avoid the smokers. There is a lawn with picnic tables and also a gravel boules court.
The food at lunchtimes is slightly pricy, but hearty, fresh and delicious and without doubt good value for money. Sunday lunch is always very popular and almost always fully booked. We have tried the evening food, but sadly were actually quite disappointed. All 'locally sourced', nicely decorated and so on, but just not really very good. Perhaps we were unlucky, but at those prices you really expect a hit every time. Unfortunate because the landlord tries hard to please and deserves to succede.

Welcoming 'old inn' as the name suggests. limited menu maybe due to being sunday or maybe becaue of the large group of us. just roasts available, one fish dish and a vegetarian dish. friendly staff. Overall a pleasant experience but a little dissapointing with the restricted menu ans lack of options for childrens meals.

The Otter Ale is popular and well kept and is some of the best I have tasted. The food is pretty good also.

Excellent pub, much improved since the new owners took over just over a year ago. The pub has two bars, a large open fireplace in the lounge, and a smaller public bar, with a restaurant area to one end of the building. There is also a garden area with benches at the back of the pub away from the road, with another area for boules and a skittle alley. The menu is now enormously varied (including bar snacks), and is of a quality not found in many local restaurants. Otter Ale, Bitter, and always one or two other guest ales from local breweries are always very well kept (will no doubt be in next 2009 GBG), with friendly, efficient staff serving.

A character thatched Inn set on south side of A35 just west of Axminster. Several rooms/bars, restaurant & pleasant patio+beer garden away from road at the rear. 3 Otter beers (Bitter, Bright & Ale) from 4 hand pulls were in good condition. GBG listed in 2006 we couldn�t see why it is not in latest guide. A reasonable menu, food good but few lower priced (value) bar snacks. Reviewed 15/06/07 by SADCATS on Tour! SCORE-7
