All change here again with a landlord from Chipping Norton and his Black Country wife now running the place and we had a good chat with them on a quiet evening last week. Apparently, they were told that the pub was doing better than it actually was, so hopefully they will be able to make a go of things. However, this pub is in the middle of nowhere so local trade is probably vital. Tribute is the regular beer with 2 guests (Glamorgan's Thunderbird and Bays Summer Ale when we went) - the landlord tries to have 3 beers on with differing colours and strengths. I would say that the beers merited a 7 out of 10. A two-pint takeout of one of the guest beers was a bargain £5.20. The pub itself is a bit of an L-shape inside and has had much of the character knocked out of it at some point.

Reopened with new landlord. Just as bad as before. No real ale on offer. Given bottled beer at £3.20 per bottle. Food very average. Landlord spends more time in front of the bar and leaves the running to untrained immigrants. Not recommended.

What a pretty thatched country pub. I stopped in for a coffee yesterday morning . Nice selection of ales. I didn't have anything to eat but the food looked good coming out. I will try some next time. Real coffee served by happy staff, very rare. Well worth a visit

Open now for a year, food ok and beer straight from the barrel, very nice.

Drove past the other day and it had a 'For Sale' sign out front. This building was (or is) owned by Mentor Inns. Being the total bunch of rip off artists that they are it's no doubt it's for sale. I doubt the last Licensees could afford to pay their high rent demands!!! I hope they got out of it 'intact'. Hopefully someone will buy this pub and run it the way it's ment to run. It has got great potential and located so close to the famous 'Burrow Hill Cider Farm'.

Had lunch here today. Husband and Wife team could not have been friendlier. The place looked very smart and clean and my pint of Cheddar Ales Potholer was in excellent condition. We both had the soup of the day, wild mushroom and thyme, and it was delicious. One main of braised beef and another of pork belly were also first class as was the dish of fresh mixed veg. The newish owners seem to be doing a great job and deserve to make this a successful little country pub

Tuesday night, pub (although you would expect it to be a city centre bistro judging by the interior) busy with diners having a Spanish themed evening. Butcombe and Cheddar on draught served through tight sparklers (why?). Beers were in good nick though. No idea if any locals would use this place, they'd be better off in the Wyndham down the road

we had a very nice lunch here one sunday and all the staff were very friendly - recommended

I thought the lunch we had here to be good, but not great. It;s cerainly not the sort of pub you expect to find out here, and seems to be more a labour of love by the owners rather than anything else. Worth a visit nevertheless

Went back again last weekend and I have to say food was fantastic and so I think rosey14 below had a bad day.
Its now under new owners and it has definitely improved. Grear pub and worth a visit.

Visited this pub for lunch in 2008 and it was very good. Went back this weekend and it was very different. Food cold and greasy. Am unlikely to return.

"Quality Food and Drink, Served in a friendly, relaxed pub environment" is the line on the front of their pamphlet - and it is exactly that.
The food is excellent and the beer/real ale selection great. I had the ploughmans with pork pie and it was superb.
Very friendly owners too. A first rate pub in a sleepy and beautiful part of the South West.

Well, you're out in the boondocks here,. but the Rusty Axe is certainly very welcoming. It's all very modern and trendy on the inside, nothing like you would expect.
They have a good selection of local beer which all tasted very nice, and the food is good too. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

Local produce and local real ales take centre stage in his very clean, modern country pub. Graham, the landlord takes a lot of care in his choice and his serving of the three real ales on offer and he is justifiably proud of his efforts. Potholer from Cheddar Ales is very popular and a regular beer on offer. I've been visting the pub regualrly for about 6 months and the beer has invariably been excellent. The interior is modern and open plan, not to my liking but I am sure that many will love the clean cut lines. Well worth a visit.

ace beers here, Cheddar Ales Potholer 4.3% is usually on, with at least 2 other reals which could be from anywhere in the country.....new owner Graham is a hot keen beer-keeper. and good food choice too.... definitely worth finding.
