Holdens bitter @ £ 2.30 per pint was very good - small nice front bar - friendly landlady
|
I like Holden's beer which is a good start! The bitter was on fine form. The pub is basically just a front room for drinking with a raised area behind where they serve Thai food (I think you could still sit and drink there though). It is just a very good boozer with no frills - always worth a visit.

It is what it is a basic local boozer that probably caters well for it's own clientele. Having said enjoyed a really good pint of Holdens Golden Glow, which is fast becoming a favourite, from a selection of Holdens beers, though not too keen on the Holdens Special, but purely down to personal taste. This is now also Mee's Thai Restaurant which is through the back part of the pub but does not inpinge on the propper pub feel at the front.

Visited back in January and can report the pint of Holdens Golden Glow was spot on this time round, 7/10

Friendly landlady but dire pint of ale. 5/10

Dropped in around 10.30 on a Saturday night heading back to the Beacon, only a handful in at that time. Decent range of well-kept Holden's ales and a welcoming landlady, but nonetheless a very flat experience. Flatscreen TV BLARING out across the small front bar to no audience, could easily have turned it down or off. Men's toilets were extremely scruffy and dirty. Only hung around for 15 minutes, I'm afraid.

I visited this Good Beer Guide pub in June 07 and found the ales to be in good condition. The beers were from micros rather than big breweries, and I enjoyed ales from Nottingham and Kelburn breweries. It is an interesting pub to wander round and look at the rooms.
