A lovely pub by the river. Two guest ales on but both were warm and rather bland. Not kept very well. Maybe the landlord needs educating on hown to keep a nice ale. A lovely village deserving of a better pub.

I'm writing this from the back terrace of The Chequers, the view from which I've uploaded. The building and location mean this pub should be stellar, alas it's far from so. All ales off apart from Bombardier, which I should've gone for as this Guinness is fizzy. A huge rack of boring lagers and gimmicky spirits I can't believe sell well.
The interior has a layout which could be interesting and cozy but instead is awkward and unwelcoming, with a Sky Sports TV that's utterly unsuitable for the space. The barmaid was polite enough, but I didn't feel welcomed.
This place needs a real wake-up or there'll be no pubs in this village in a few years.

Have visited this pub a couple of times now as have recently moved to the area.Its lovely looking from the outside and has a very nice rear patio area to the back over looking the river. Have'nt tried the food yet as both times it was'nt available.The standout fact for me was the unfriendly service I received from the landlord,he was'nt out and out rude as such,but just 'yes' 'no' answers when trying to make conversation (it was'nt busy). To me a great pub has staff who make you feel like your welcome,not that your an inconvenience.

A mixed bag. The positives: an excellent pint of Guinness and a patio overlooking the Medway. The negatives: the pint of Shepherd Neame Master Brew was on its last legs, somewhat 'chavvy' client�le, TV football commentary - in Spanish - turned-up despite the evident lack of Spaniards, or a Spanish evening class, benefiting from the 'facility'.
That said, there is little choice in the area: I noticed a closed pub and a former pub (The George) on the same High Street. Aylesford Village seems to be a victim of the car/commute/supermarket lifestyle that has taken hold of so many rural areas.

I've never been to this pub any other day except Sunday so I cannot comment on the general weekday atmosphere, but if you're going to visit for a good lunch, please please go on a Sunday. The carvery roast dinner is, undoubtedly, the best roast dinner I have ever had. (And I've had many!) It was recommended to us by some friends about two or three years ago so we thought we'd try it out, and we go back about once every six weeks as we just can't get enough. The excellent chef makes up about five or six varieties of vegetables to choose from, the potatoes are simply amazing, and the gravy must have a special X ingredient as it's just so nice! In fact I need to stop writing about it now as I'm dreaming of it and it's only Wednesday! I can't wait that long!

A nice enough pub but oh I does look a bit tired, particularly the patio area. We'd heard that they had a new landlord but this isn't the case. Almost completely empty when we called in, and on a hot summer's afternoon too.

Arrived Sunday evening for a beer. We were particpating in the Vintage motorcycle rally at the Priory. The beer tent was closed(sold out of beer)
Goachers. Thought we would try a local. At least 18 of us plus 3 locals in pub drinking.Served by a surly bar man with an upside down smile. Went back for more and he told us at 10.10pm he has cashed up so could not serve us. The beer was Sheps Masterbrew and Spitfire both at the end of the barrel. He did serve us after we scrapped the correct money up but we had to drink up by 10.30. The Dutch and German group were refused and they walked out saying they are never coming back to England again because of his attitude. I wonder if the Landlord knows what is going on! Not good to lose custom like this.

Slightly more plain and simple inside than one expext from the 'olde world' facade, but this pub does have an excellent terrace overlooking the River Medway and Aylesford's medieval bridge. Two real ales on, including a resptable pint of Masterbrew, and a reasonably-priced bar snack menu.

More "local" than the Little Gem (at least out of season), but a very nice pub to visit with a patio area overlooking the river, and good basic pub food. Shepherd Neame's Masterbrew was on sale, and the usual fizzy lagers. Another Aylesford pub with a door for small people.
