Great pub with friendly service and fantastic atmosphere. Huge portions of food! Will be back soon.

Nice old pub but the beer wasn't up to much, one was undrinkable.

A good place to stop for a pint whilst walking in this fantastic area. Inside is cosy with a large fire place and ouside has a beer garden. Also a handy bus stop outside if you can't be bothered to walk back!
8/10

This is a real find as the pubs in Lynton/Lynmouth are on the whole a thoroughly lacklustre lot. Excellent old-fashioned pub full of nooks and crannies and a good choice of local ales on tap. Didn't eat here, but the food being served up looked fine to me and certainly nobody was complaining. Well worth the strenuous climb I made out of Lynmouth to get here.

My wife and I stopped here (not for the first time) a couple of weeks ago. I thoroughly agree with all the positive comments of the previous reviewer and had read these before booking. There seemed to be a far better choice of beer available when we visited (although I did stick with the Tribute) and there now seems to be a substantial "daily specials" menu available with a further veggie choice for both starter and main courses. For wine drinkers, there is a wide choice at very reasonable prices. The staff and local customers are all very welcoming and we shall certainly visit again.

Stayed recently for a few nights. Handsome, ancient former coaching inn that hasn't been ponced up or otherwise buggered about with. Good points: genuinely dog friendly; very good breakfasts; pleasant staff; that huge fireplace. Poor points: disappointing choice of ales (they had their "own", and High Tide from Clearwater (two virtually indistinguishable small beers which might well have been "clear water" for all the taste they had) and the only one worth drinking, Tribute. But who wants to drink Tribute all evening?; lack of choice for vegetarians, although we were told the "chef" would cook us what we asked for. However, if he can't even manage a simple risotto without turning it into a dollop of wallpaper paste, what's the point? Anyway, when I'm on holiday I don't want to have to plan pub menus, I'm paying someone else to do that! The spicy beanburger was clearly from a frozen catering pack and came with a plain, dry old processed white bun and some (ugh) oven chips, and a meagre attempt at a salad. We ate it because we'd been walking all day, but we resented paying top dollar for unimaginitive and poorly cooked food. We ate elsewhere on the last night, having given them two chances to show us what they could do. However, I did enjoy my stay as it's rare to find somewhere that's so relaxed about guests who holiday with their dogs, and the location is superb being right next to the SW coast path and its stunning views. If I stay again, I'll find somewhere else to eat and drink. 6/10, must try harder.

Very welcoming pub with 3 ales when I visited and a very welcoming log fire to sit in front of on a cold December's evening.

We were self catering in Lynmouth and belatedly discovered on the Friday evening that the local chippies all closed for business at 7:30 pm ! I recalled this pub from a previous visit and dragged our reluctant family into the car and up the long hill from the village. Although a large pub, nearly all the tables were occupied, but the staff managed to squeeze us in. A very chatty bar man and the usual selection of local cask ales made for a promising evening. Very popular with walkers, we felt under qualified in our area of the bar/restaurant as every table but ours had 1 to 2 dogs under it. Long waits for food and bill but very large portions of reasonable pub grub.

Wonderful pub for few beers after a brisk walk from Porlock to work up a thirst. There's a handy bus stop outside too, so you don't have to walk back. Food is reasonable and the beer's not bad either. I seem to remember that it gets crowded in the summer, but still a pleasure to visit.

Visited on New Year's Eve. Traditional pub, very cosy with big log fires and a friendly atmosphere. There were some strangely dressed "romans" in their toga's; oh yeah, that was our group. The beer was good and we returned the next day to try some more.

Excellent Pub. How they should be. Well kept beer. Two real fires, loads of friendly dogs. friendly staff. The only downside was choice of beer, only St Austell. but most of the local pubs are the same.
