Country pub situated next to a ford that had been blocked off for our visit today. The food smelt very tempting on entry. But we managed to resist. Brakspear Bitter & Marstons Sweet Chariot were the 2 ales. I tried the latter and it was ok. There is a small patio area to the side, which we took advantage of. To be honest, I'd completely forgotten that I'd been here previously (in summer 2011). This time I did have family in tow and the place was busier!

Large party of diners obviously not drinking the Brakspears, which is often good round here but not today. Shame, because the pub has a decent feel and good location.
I chickened out from crossing the ford.

Pub nicely busy with diners. No one waiting at the bar so was surprised that we were ignored! No cheery welcome! Finally a "yes mate" ordered beer and crisps and sat down. What surprises me about this pub is the myriad of home made notices stuck up everywhere telling you not to do this that and the other! (i particulary enjoyed the sigh for the gents as the arrow directed you right behind the bar servery!) we declined to eat here as the toilets were disgusting! Pee all over the floor, yet more notices, dust dirt and cobwebs everywhere! If the toilet (that you can publically see) are this filthy; what's the kitchen going to be like?

This pub enjoys a great location next to a fairly deep ford. Witnessing a child paddling around in the ford and the pub just beyond gave me all the encouragement I needed to attempt to cross. At one foot deep, the water was relatively easy to cross. The building is large. But sadly, there were no other customers for the 6 staff to serve. Four of the staff were tucking into meals, presumably after a lunchtime shift in the kitchen. This does appear to be primarily a diners pub, catering to families. Brakspear Bitter & Jennings Lakeland Stunner were the beer offerings. Walls feature large glass cases containing fish, plus copious pictures of other large catches. A nice pub if you are hungry and have a family in tow. Otherwise, it did lack atmosphere.

Underwent a complete transformation about three years ago into a large and extended eating house. Good decent food, can get overwhelmed when busy as mentioned elsewhere. Brakspears range of ales, although only usually Best & Organic on. Good walks around and by the ford, do not drive or walk through it unless you can see the water lapping back off the concrete bed!

A large pub, slightly suffered from a lack of staff, although out party of 11 didn't help much! They are advertising for more staff so they are aware of the problem. Brakespears, Bitter and Special were on and in reasonable condition. Next to an infamous ford that does get deep on some occasions, despite the warning signs plastered everywhere and the depth gauge, people think they can drive their 4x4s into it, well they can't when the water is 4.5 foot deep!!

Enjoyable Brakspear house, situated next to a ford in some nice countryside.
Couple of ales on (including a Brakspear seasonal), which was pretty good. Interior was decent enough and there was a wide mix of client�le. Nice outside seating area, good for summer.
Will be returning, would recommend if nearby or looking for a Sunday afternoon type of pub.
