Excelent pub which I visit with two different car clubs. In the summer the Ford club meet and the field alongside is packed. The service is good even with large crowds. But I hope the kitchen which has been closed until recently is soon functioning again. Beer is good and well kept.

A difficult pub to seek out, except from the direction of the A22. Once found, it is a delightful place to visit especially on a summer's day.
This pub really takes a pride in its cuisine, and we've eaten there several times and can't fault it.

Tried the Jolly Farmer for a lunchtime anniversary meal (52nd) after reading reviews on line and we were treated as special guests by Michelle (bar and service) and chefs Marion and Rebecca. Let us split the first course of delicious whitebait (small appetites) allowing us plenty of room for the main courses of Thai beef salad and Three Cheese Crispy Veg Pie beautifully presented. Insisted on us having a complimentary lemon cheese desert to mark our anniversary. Very reasonably priced drinks and persuaded to have a full bottle of the house italian Merlot (under 10) with encouragement to take the unfinished bottle home. We came away completely satisfied and feeling we had not only had a lovely and excellent value meal a bit different to the norm but had also made three great new friends with the attentive and welcoming staff. We will return! Tony & Rosemary Hodges

Harvey's Best (2.60, very good), Pride and Directors. Sports screens were on, looked a homely pub. Large beer garden, hut for smokers.

Worth a visit.

The 1.50 a pint while the Grand National was running promotion sounded like it might be fun, as long as they could have got the telly back from the bloke shouting at the rugby. Excellent pint of Harvey's.

Just when other local pubs are looking for customers. After a few visits to this lovley old fasion pub. One with a warm open fire to greet you ! A friendly face behind the bar and many local people to have a chat to. This pub is what life is about. The outside smokers room is the best I have ever seen. I don't smoke, but I am jelous of how the smokers are treated. The newly refurbished resurant looks the part along with the fresh clean smell of the new toilets. This is a local pub, with dart boards, pool table, music, even live music on a Thursday. The best of all is the Jolly Bus, someone has used the old grey matter and come up with a very good idea. You drink and they drive !! What more can one say other than try this out and like me I am sure you will return.I understand that they hold many events in the spring/ summer and can't wait until I return. Keep the good work up,

Went for a quick meal after work, food was fantastic! ! Ended up having dessert as well, which was mouth watering. Great, attentive service by staff, lovely atmosphere, open fire. Would definately recommend to all.

I've been back again. The resturant has been completely refurbished and two smashing ladies ( Jodie and Emma ) calling theirselves Taste Unlimited are running the resturant alongside that of the traditional style pub. The toilet areas have been refurbed and look like something from Ceasars Palace now. Very clean pub, a wide range of traditional style pub food to some very excecutive lunches which are 'the girls' specailality. Well kept beer and a reasonable selection of wine offered although the rioja still came out tops for me. Value for money throughout including the little gratuity to the Jolly Bus driver who collected us and returned us home again safely. The valentines menu looks great and I will be back again. Well , Well worth a visit.

Haven't visited here much recently until last night when a Christmas do was being held at the pub. Although probably not as old as it might like to suggest, I agree that the interior very much evokes a sense of a cosy traditional pub with few pretentions and is ideal for a Winter gathering. It plainly has a good local following (there aren't many other pubs nearby) but this does not mean that non-locals aren't made to feel welcome). Staff are helpful and the food (a buffet featuring chilli con carne, nachos and a cheese board was offered) was both hearty and tasty. The ale selection is limited to three and they are somewhat ubiquitous offerings (Courage Best, Fullers London Pride and Harveys Sussex Best), but the Harveys was kept well and not too badly priced by today's standards (2.60). Some wine was also quaffed and again, the mark-up wasn't too outrageous (less than a tenner for a bottle of '05 Italian Merlot).
I'm not entirely convinced that this deserves the current overall rating in excess of 8/10, but certainly if you can get out there (either by taxi or the innovative "Jollybus" service!) the JF is worth a visit.

What a great little country pub just outside the village of Horne. Excellent well portioned food, polite and helpful staff , a good range of beers including Harveys , London Pride and Courage Best bitters. Resturant seperate to Bar area which is good and an excellent outside smoking area. I even noticed it has its own cricket pitch and team.Beer was cheaper than most pubs in this area and they had a well balanced wine list serving Pinot Grigo or Merlot at under 10.00 a bottle and a good quality Reserva Rioja was under 15.00 a bottle. Well Well worth a visit . They even offer a free courtesy bus at certian times. Best pub thats still a pub that

Great pub when John Peel was the landlord in the 1970's but went into the doldrums after he retired and until the present owners took it over. It's well worth a visit - food and beer excellent.

Booked a table for four. If required, the 'Jolly Bus' (free) comes to pick you up if you are local as it is out of the way. Restaurant is quite nice with candles on tables. The food was excellent and a large choice. Had to wait a long time though, but the waiter appologised several times, it was very very busy (good sign). Still very busy at 11:30pm in the bar when we asked for the 'Jolly Bus' to take us home. Excelent evening. Good beer/wine. helpful staff.

Hooray, a pub that's still a pub. There is a separate area for eaters which is very comfortable although you can eat in the bar if you wish - there is still plenty of bar area - and the food is good and tasty. Staff and locals very friendly. A very good out-of-the way pub. Would recommend.

This one's OK, something for everyone here. Eighteenth century pub in an out of the way location, so little passing trade but lots of locals. Still got separate drinking areas, pool table and all that one end, loungish bit in the middle and restaurant at the other. It doesn't have the pretensions of so many pubs round here. Let's hope it stays that way and keeps below the radar of the refurbishment brigade. Anyway everyone's friendly enough and they do a nice drop of Harvey's.

Not a destination pub but worth a look if you're in these parts.
