The ship is just a few steps away from the bustling main Road,It is a no frills Palmer pub with a warm welcome. A pool table in the basement which leads to a small tabled patio. It is usually quiet which can be a relief as Lyme can be sardine packed on a sunny Summer's day.

A reasonably enjoyable boozer which serves as an antidote to the enjoyable albeit very middle class charms of the nearby Town Mill. We watched the World Cup quarter final between Holland and Costa Rica here and it proved to be an enjoyable experience. Beers are from Palmers who do reek a little of the local (presumably Tory) establishment so they are just fine but not scintillating.

A basic, no frills boozer a short stroll away from the town centre. First impressions were not good, with a noisy young toddler running around and nearly colliding with us as we entered. We should have taken that as a sign to leave, but as I find it very difficult to leave a pub without having a pint, we persevered.

The pub is a sideways U-shape in layout, with the front bar having rough boards on the floor, a curved, wooden bar counter, wood panelling on the lower part of the walls and some old painted wallpaper up above. Wooden bench chairs with red upholstery were arranged around the perimeter of the room, and there were numerous pictures on the wall, many of old ships from the White Star Line and old photographs of the town. A piano was in one corner along with a plasma, although this was turned off and there was also a fruit machine.

It could really have done with a little background music, either from the plasma or something else. Besides the toddlers parents, there was only one other punter in there which made it all too easy to hear the landlord swearing down the phone. Later on a large horde of cackling females arrived so it went from one extreme to the other.

The only beers on tap were both from Palmers, with their Best Bitter and Copper Ale. It looks as though 200 may usually be on, but the pump clip was turned round on this occasion. The solitary cider was Thatchers Gold.

'Jester' said they were actually Wolves fans.
Easy mistake...

Found this little gem down the back streets of Lyme. Seriously cosy, a proper pub.
Stocked the usuals, Thatchers cider and Palmers beers - Palmers Best / IPA was kept well, consistently good, smooth as silk.
Excellent finish to a great night.

Brilliant atmosphere - despite being half full of Albion fans - very friendly, certainly return. Back again in May.

Another one of the good pubs which Lyme has to Offer, Dave a londoner is a vry friendly fellow who makes locals and visitors alike welcome, a little expensive but thats what you expect for a palmers pub, by far the best pint of Carlsberg in Lyme. No Food is served here but if your peckish there is a chip shop opposite :)

Nice little boozer down a backstreet. Bit of a locals place really and like everywhere in this town the most expensive beer in the country! 8/10

The worst pub in Lyme Regis.
The most expensive pint i've ever had outside London.
Unfriendly staff who don't take kindly to tourists.
The landlord picked an argument with me. Not satisfied with result he ripped me off for 10 through short changing. A v.unpleasant experience and avoid like the plague.

Me and my girlfriend quite liked this place which we stumbled upon after a walk around Lyme Regis.
A great traditional boozer one of the better pubs in lyme.
My pint of thatchers gold was fantastic.

I would give it 9/10

Liked our visit here. Palmer's beer a bit so-so but the welcome was friendly.

A detached back street pub, with yellow render and green painted exterior.

The interior is open plan, with a pool room down on a slightly lower level. The decor was white walls and wood panel. There is a dart board and Sky TV. There is a wood floor, with lots of ephemera around, and a piano in the corner. I found the place clean enough. It is a local's pub and the small clientele all knew each other, not a problem with that, but i was treated a little abruptly at the bar when i asked for drinks.

Beer; usual tap stuff, with Palmers 200, Bitter and Copper Ale, the bitter and ale being fine.

Surroundings and beer were fine, the service a bit off. Would try it again, if treated the same way i would walk out.

A great back street pub. Cosy, friendly and relatively unspoilt with wooden wainscot panelling, bar and floor. The Palmers IPA was in perfect condition on my two visits. Cask Marque.

Nothing really grabs you about this place it is functional slightly dishevelled in a Dorset kind of way.I pop in for a quick one but would never want another as Lyme has other boozers that are better.

Even though it's a Palmers house, this is a decent little backstreet boozer - not at all grubby but it does have bare floorboards and old tables and chairs which may be off-putting for those of a more delicate disposition. It is filled with locals but with a good welcome for strangers. Copper Pot and 200 were both very well kept. (There were no flies apparent during my visit.)

Some might say this is traditional, I'd call it grubby. A small little downstairs room houses a pool table for those that like that sort of thing.
Previous guy is right about the flies: Neverseen so many flies in a pub before and this is only march.

Traditional back street pub off the beaten tourist trail. I could just about make out the tv showing a football match through the clouds of flies hovering around the doorway.
