This has been refurbished and has reverted to its old name of the GOLDEN LION.
This was the end of an 8 bar pub crawl, so I was pretty tired and can't remember exactly what I drank. But I can remember it was a decent pint of real ale served by a friendly member of staff. The menu looked good too. Personally I just prefer the Estcourt Tavern just over the road, but this is one of the few pubs in central Watford I could recommend.

Now open again. We walked past and it was packed and very noisy so didn't venture in. I'll do so at a later date to suss the place out.

Watched rugby and had the St Edmunds which was pretty good. Food good value and friendly bar staff. Would recommend to any rugby fans as the only rugby orientated pub in Watford.

Good for Rugby (I'm a Sarries fan) and on the whole beer is good quality. Food usually OK too, but I've only ever had the burger there. Friendly bar staff.

Handy central location, though you'd have to know it was there to find it. Just GK IPA and Old Speckled Hen on when I visited, IPA had the new North/South gizmo with it and it was in good nick. The homemade burger was awful, and burnt, but the other food being served looked nice so maybe I was just unlucky. TV screens seem to on all the time, and fruit machines flashing away so a bit grim inside. Some outside seating but I didn't get chance to check that out.

It's a nice pub to look at and be in. With nice decor and seating. I find the real ale range limited and it isn't always in the best of condition. Hence I tend to use the Wellington and Estcourt Arms nearer the station or Wetherspoons if in town. But it's worth a visit, especially if you aren't drinking ale and don't mind paying a bit more for nice surroundings.

Lovely boozer, real ale, decent food, very friendly.
Worth a visit if your watching Saracens.

Sports orientated bar with the emphasis very much on rugby union with it being the (un)official home of Saracens supporters. Can get a bit lively at busy times but never threatening. Other times its a haven of calm, almost to the extent that you wonder if its OK to talk. Only a small bar, made smaller by the large tables they have installed. Fairly clean throughout and quite bright. Two hand pumps but only GK IPA and Bombardier on my last visit, Ive also seen 6X on. Prices more expensive than average for the area.

Beer is good. Worth a visit after Saracens games as well as before. Landlord knows his rugby. Fezboys always make you welcome. BBQ outside in the warmer part of the rugby season.

A very nice pub - particularly good for the rugby. Definitely a good place for a nice pint before heading down to Vicarage Road to watch the Saracens
