Now under new management and standards are better across the board. The quality of the food is noticeably higher and the service to match. Much improved

An OK experience, though it is somewhat of a disappointment to assume one is drinking a potentially interesting ale in the Old Wallop, only to find Davy's have simply renamed Courage Directors...

Usual Davys affair with business suits taking out their secretaries and a limited selection of overpriced drinks masked as the elixir of the cultured class do me a favour!

Unless you are a suit with an expense account, forget this place. It is a desert in the middle of an oasis of good pubs, better beers and staff without a charisma by-pass operation. Beer definitely watered down here, a bit of personality would not go amiss. Get a grip you lot, not everyone round here is a suit with bottomless expenses and no sense of taste for diluted beer. Trading Standards anyone?

Have been here a couple of times. Had the Wallop and was absolutely positive it was either watered down or the makers have changed the recipe. Its lost some of its kick. The manager wasn't really interested, he was adamant its the same as always. The food is expensive for what it is, so won't be going back.

Mostly frequented by businessmen looking for a decent glass of wine with lunch, since they only have one bitter. This is an OK beer but on the light side, probably about 3.5%. Their beef sandwiches are superb, with the beef coming from their own Scottish estate. It's really a restaurant with a bar, but being chavless it gets my vote for a convenient lunchtime stop-over.

Ive often walked past this place and wondered what it was like but called in for the first time recently during an afternoon pub crawl. It is essentially a wine bar and restaurant but has a downstairs bar with a pub style seating area. Its a really nice looking place with a bit of an olde worlde feel to it and the odd bit of sawdust strewn around the floors, a tradition of the Davys chain I was told. There is an extensive wine list which includes their own label wines. But we were there for the beer, Davys Old Wallop, which is served in pewter tankards and also available in half gallon copper jugs. A good drinking experience and one that Im sure Ill repeat at some stage.
