Six years on from the last comment, this is a welcoming, traditional pub in a town that has a lot of brand bars. Friendly welcome and efficient service and serving an excellent pint of Young's Bitter - one of four cask ales available on my visit. There is a fifth pump, which was not in use today. 8/10 and well worth a visit.

Can't believe how this place has gone down- it used to be a friendly backstreet pub. Now its half full of loud blokes giving bull about how much they supposedly earn or spend. This ,along with stupidly high prices for average beer and their habit of serving afore mentioned loud-mouths before anyone else gives an impression of a masonic lodge rather than a welcoming pub.The front room also smells of smoke. There are now quite a few better pubs in Sutton, which are also chav free but far more welcoming and where people drink (with genuinely high incomes) but chose to keep quiet about it.

Undoubtedly one of my favorite pubs in Sutton. It's a real no-nonsense, old school drinking establishment. The Duke is how all city back-street pubs should be, where it's still possible to strike up a conversation with a stranger in the snug. When it's saturday night in Sutton and you've had enough of ear-splitting music and groups of loud women out on a hen night - there is always The Duke.
The outdoor seating area is large but very under-used it seems.

Nice pub. Does a great pint of Deuchars. The beer garden is huge and not very well known. Only drawback is the price - one of the more expensive pubs in the area.

Brought a mate here on 4 April 2009. Still a brilliant place to drink. The Deuchars was great!

This is a proper old school drinkers pub. The sort of place where 'everyone knows your name' but is not unfriendly to the casual visitor. It has a nice community feel to it as well with a notice board showing local sporting fixtures and charitable activities. There is a small three sided bar with one side seemingly facing into a corridor with a few snob screens. Three hand pumps I think and I had a decent pint of Deuchars.

What is Slowfoot talking about? I popped into the Duke on 8 November. Its the first time in a couple of months since I've been in. It was as friendly as ever. My wife and I were made extremely welcome. And they do Theakston's Mild now. The tap faces out into the corridor so I've never seen it before. I'm increasing my rating.

Shame about the ignorant gaffer. Ruined a good pub.

Good little pub. Always has a decent couple of ales on, the staff are friendly enough. Probably the best pub in Sutton.

I love the Duke. A friendly locals' pub with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. The real ales are well kept and very tasty. No hot food, but they do a mean filled roll!
The best pub in Sutton, but not one if you're under 30. And long may it stay that way.

The Duke Inn is a pub you would miss if you didnt know it was there, which I am sure its locals prefer it that way, its a funny little place which is friendly and worth a look for a drink in the centre of Sutton Coldfield which feels like its off the beaten track. The bar area and the pub is small and intimate, they sometimes put the football on and its a good place to watch it as you can always see the screen. The choice of beers is good and the cask ales are great. With a beer garden as well its a little gem but probably not one for a Friday or Saturday if you are under 30 years old, but a great place for a quick pint during the week. Plus its chav free from what I saw.

Any pub which serves Steve Buet has got to be worth a shout. Anything else is superfluous.

I have regularly visited this pub over the past 5 years and have never been dissapointed with the quality of the ales and friendly staff. It has Cask Marque accreditation. The best pub in Sutton Coldfield and one of the best in Birmingham for beer quality.
