Only time I went in it was like a saloon bar in a bad Western film. All the locals went silent as I walked in and stared at me as I ordered my pint, which came in a dirty and very scratched glass. The seats were in such poor repair that I nearly fell through the bottom of mine. Then an altercation broke out and the barman was being threatened with a pool queue while the locals vocally taking sides. Interesting experience, but I wouldn't care to repeat it....

The pubs along the High Road have never particularly appealed to me over the years. But on Sunday, I finally entered this one. It seems to be owned by Irish and Jamaican people. The interior is a single bar that is looking a little shabby. But it does have character. Fairly busy after the football match, the pub only has keg beers and ciders - Stella, Strongbow, Carlsberg, Fosters, Kronenbourg, Guinness, Guinness Extra Cold and Tetleys Extra Cold. Not as bad as I expected.

Absoloute dump of a pub, if you can call it a pub.
Every Friday, Saturday it is full of Rastafarian men playing cards for money or dominoes and constantly banging table and shouting. This goes on for hours on end and throughout the duration not one of the 20 or so Rastafarians has a drink on the table.
Behind the bar is very dirty , ceiling looks like it has started to fall down in two places. Toilets smashed up completely, no working lights , toilet roll has to be purchased by customers from shop few doors down.
The landlady , a painfully thin hagged person and who has clearly had a hard life (looks 25 years older than she actually is) allows people to come in who have just been shop lifting to sell the stolen items to punters. She even bought two bottles of vodka herself from the chap. He had Iceland pizzas, lumps of meat, alcohol and was selling the stuff for a 1/3rd of its value. I have been working and living in Tottenham for the past 7 years and have given it a miss for 6 years, then popped in out of sheer optimism for the first time . I was offered Cocaine in the toilets, counterfeit DVDs from a Chinese woman at the bar, and newly stolen food products from a Jamaican fella, all in the space of one pint , half hour!!
The landlady Shivoon , the woman that said she was the owner , is clearly out of her depth here.
None of us will be back that's for sure. We'll take the long walk up to the gilpin or stick with the occasional after work drink at the Elbow room a few doors down...

Stay away from this pub unless you to like to walk into the gents & and find itoccupied by a man & woman dealing.
By the way the publican seems to be fully aware of what is going on.

one of the less busy pubs during match day and a good shout to start in. simple but friendly 5/10

This place doesnt have the widest selection of drinks, but the Guinness was good and the barmaid was very friendly. I spotted the massive Taylor Walker mirror mentioned in a previous post and the tiny pool table around the back of the island bar. Other than the posters dotted around advertising the live music, this pub is sparsely decorated and could do with a little TLC to bring it back to its best.

There is a small smoking area out the back past the gents toilets and the ladies toilet is located up some stairs at the rear of the pub.

Although it was fairly quiet early on Saturday afternoon, I did like the crowd and thought it was very friendly, but I think that I would choose the Elbow Room next door if in the area again.

Well my parents now run The Ship and have done since January this year. Eddie the previous manager was looking after it for mum and dad but he left just before christmas. Since mum and dad moved in, it has come on in leaps and bounds. It's going to be a slow process but they are improving the pub day by day. They have started bringing in some great bands on a Friday and Saturday night which has gone down really well. They have great plans to clean it up by improving the beer garden and the decor inside the bar. They have renewed some pumps behind the bar and are going to be replacing a lot more things old for new soon. My parents are very friendly people who have raised a large family and some family members work in their other pub in Archway. They have a lovely rapport with the current locals and it seems to have encouraged more ex punters to come back in again. They know the pub well as they used to manage it when I was just 6 years old and I am now 34!!! Watch this space! I would encourage anyone who used to be a customer to try again, as I am sure you will be peasantly suprised!

Neither a good or bad pub, beer's ok, drinkers are alright, not much difference, apart from the decor, to the Elbow Room a few doors down.

This is my favourite pub in Tottenham. I love the fact that it has not been modernised. The regulars are so friendly and this pub is very multi-cultural - anyone would feel at home here. I miss Jack who used to run this pub - that Eddie who is in there now is moody. Lovely barman called John - all the staff are nice. Great on a Friday night when they have live music. Well worth a visit.

Not too bad. Agree with previous reviwer mostly. Still no glasses on match days thanks to the over zealous police at Spurs games.

According to the brief history displayed on the wall, the Ship was one of 4 Coaching Inns in Tottenham that serviced the London to Cambridge route. A pub was recorded here as early as 1610 and one of the original buildings was an impressive and presumably sizeable place described as having 6 gables. The current version is late Victorian and still retains a few fragments of its original past, notably the green tiled faade with its large lantern, ornate patterned burgundy ceiling, an impressive fireplace, some of the etched windows and some interior tiling although sadly much of this is now hidden behind the current seating. There are still some dividing screens near the doors but most of the original divisions have been removed leaving an open, walk round pub with an island bar. Some parts of the look a bit tatty and the promotional posters and dangling inflatable Guinness glasses cheapen the overall appearance. A magnificent Taylor Walker mirror graces one wall and there are a few oddments that attract attention. There is the usual plethora of pub entertainment: plasma screen, games machines, juke box, pool table and a dart board area (minus the board). A small snug recess can be found at the very back of the pub behind the pool table and there is a beer garden mentioned but I have never ventured this far. Naturally it can get busy on match days when plastic glasses only are used but the rest of the time, the customer base appears to be made up of card schools and semi winos. The beers are nothing worth noting and whilst there are 4 hand pumps, I have never seen them in use despite a teasing Burton Ale clip permanently turned round on one of them. Potentially this could be one of the best pubs in Tottenham but it needs to add a bit more elegance and class and steer away from the cheap end of the market to achieve this. Then again, the best pub in Tottenham is not exactly a hard target to aim for.
