getting better by the minute. It now focuses on truely local beers and suppliers, giving a refreshing choice for draft ales. Great atmosphere and food portions improved

Lovely atmosphere, trendy but traditional interiors, helpful staff. Food good, but not excellent and portions on the small side for the cost (e.g. Burger and Chips £13.95 and you only get 10 chips - but they are 'triple' fried). Beers are well kept and their signature 'Pam's' pint is good. Nice to have a focal point in the village that wants to be at the heart of the community.

WOW! This place is like nowhere i have been to before. Clearly alot of money has been spent on it. Extremely quirky and original from a squirrel holding up the ceiling to French Horns as urinals. the other half and I stayed here after a days cycling and the staff were very helpful in securing our bikes round the back and our room was fantastic, well worth the £80 we paid for it. They had Harvey's Old Ale on tap and I was able to polish off several delightful pints of it before retiring for the night. One drawback was that the food, although quite lovely, was extortionate, in hindsight I think going to the indian across the road would have been a better option. However, our breakfast in the morning was superb and fuelled us up for the remainder of our cycle journey. All in all an unforgettable stay and would recommend the place to anyone wishing to stay overnight in the area.

I haven't been to this pub. My loss I think. Mark55 seems to like it. Describing fine pub attributes but. Denigrating in summary. Mark55 I hesitate to question. Your view, but don't undetstnd the picture. You are trying to paint.
Poetry I am trying pip

This will be hard to rate. The Harvey's Best was really excellent. We had lunch and the food was also very good.
But somehow it feels too gimmicky and trying too hard. And the woman on the next table for lunch had perfume so strong we were literally gagging.
Staff were great, but ... trying too hard?
They didn't really do anything wrong, but I have to say I wouldn't go back. Pissing into a trumpet (not a clarinet; that would be a challenge) did not enhance my visit.

Visited on a Friday afternoon. Lovely, funny, pub with jolly barmaid who was very friendly and welcoming, worth visiting just to see the quirky decor. Ladies and gents loo's spotless with lovely soap. Unfortunately driving so couldn't sample the beer but partners Guinness very good. Will be going back to try the Harvey's .

The Bell re-opened in November 2011 following a substantial refit. Certainly first impressions are very positive. It's a bit "country life" but not in a negative way. It does shout out "Hey I'm a bit different, come and relax". The style is therfore different and quirky (clarinets for urinals, open fires, smartly dressed serving staff, stuffed animals) meets barn structure. I think it stops short of being pretentious and it is certainly not like your average chain. Lunch was good and quite reasonably priced on our Saturday afternoon visit. The beer choice was Harveys Best and Old Ale plus a bitter called Pam. So worth a visit, which we will do again in due course. Incidentally, the 254 Countryliner bus from Tunbridge Wells to Hawkhurst stops outside, now on a daily basis but finishes early evening.
