Went into this pub because the Victoria next door was shut (on a Tuesday evening). Pleasant enough I suppose, but no real ale available. So we steeled ourselves and asked for two halves of Carling – and got served two pints !

Hardly anybody in when I called in over weekend. Beer wasn't too bad but the glass could have done with a decent wash. Handy for railway station.

came here with chelsea for our fa cup game agaisnt derby. was packed to the rafters with away fans, as i imagine it would always be on match days with its location to the station.
inside was decorated with various bits of derby county fc memorabilia, but none the less the staff were happy to have us singing and shouting, and even lets us put on a load of chelsea related music (madness, liquidator, etc etc.)
cant remeber what beers were available but when your drinking out of plastic glasses it all tastes rubbish anyway.

Decent pint of Doombar and staff friendly enough. Gets a lot of passing trade. Only downside is that it gets full of football nutters on match days.
|
Small old fashioned pub opposite the station. some great pictures of old Derby footballers like Steve Bloomer , Raich Carter and Leon Leuty. Good pint, and worth a visit unlike the pub next door
|
Other than matchdays a very local orientated pub. Handy if you fancy a pint between trains I guess.

Oh it's alright, good for reading your newspaper in.

Not quite the worst of the pubs near Derby station (see the Waterfall for that honour) but put to shame by some of the nearby (within 300yds) competition. One unremarkable real ale is better than nothing but really doesn't cut it in the proximity of the Brunswick et al. Extremely busy on DCFC match-days.

Real Ale switches between Pedi and Speckled Hen.
Small 'locals' boozer but ok for a quick pint near the station.
Fairly unremarkable pub
|
Not the most welcoming pub, but it does still have real ale. The Brunswick is worth the extra 100m walk though.

Ive sold a lot of this today says the barman as he pulls me an Old Speckled Hen. Thats probably because its the only proper beer youve got on, I thought. Decent enough quality though and in a nice friendly atmosphere. Despite the fact that it is directly opposite the train station, and probably the closest pub, it doesnt have that anonymous rather depressing station bar feel that some others have. A big Derby County FC pub judging by the memorabilia.
