4 Lees ales on last night. MPA was fine but a couple of dodgy looking characters made me sip up quickly and go. the pub has been done up to a decent standard though. it's one to definitely try

Really enjoyable music pub and we were treated to a selection of mighty fine tunes indeed on a quiet weekday night. Ales came from Lees in Middleton (including Supernova) and the bar staff were very friendly and helpful. A moustachioed customer could have been a trendster or an adherent to Movember. Yet another very good option in the Northern Quarter.

When in the area I have always walked by this place. That changed this weekend and I was pleasantly surprised - from the outside it looks like it could be a dodgy boozer, but once inside there is a decent atmosphere and no sign of any trouble. The beer was fine, if nothing special, and certainly cheap enough.

There appeared to be a band taking equipment through the bar so presumably setting up for a gig either upstairs or in a back room, not sure. Only stayed for one pint.

This place is one of a kind. Shame they're stopping Maladjusted but it's still a great venue, full of character, and loads of grungy Manc artwork to sink your teeth into. Seems most of our fav music venues are being closed/cancelled in town but it's been nice knowing you Gulli's.

A magnificent old school pub/venue channelling the spirit of the Old Angel and (Old) Old Vic in Nottingham, The Adelphi in Hull, The Victoria Inn in Derby, The Monarch in Camden, The Boardwalk in Manchester and every venue where atmosphere, good beer, and great music has made your every visit an event to cherish. A special, authentic place unlike any other in the increasingly corporate/plastic centre of Manchester

Gulliver's has been transformed from a low end boozer into perhaps the centre of the northern quarters musical universe. I know many bands who've played there, and ive yet to hear a bad word about the place. The staff are friendly and always helpful, and the guniess is superb. All in all, id say its the leading boozer in the area and i highly recommend it.

As a promoter I would be vary wary about booking nights here. As a customer, I really have no idea what this place is like....I travelled to a gig from London, only to find out when I got there that the owner/manager had 'forgot' about the 3 bands playing there that night. I have seen the communication from the promoter to the venue with details of the gig, there was plenty. Hadn't even bothered opening the place. As for advertising from the venue, there was none. Felt very disappointed not only for myself, but for the promoter and the bands, one of which had travelled from Italy. An utter disgrace.

I just got an e-mail from Jillys Rockworld saying they are opening here one Friday a month in the upstairs bar.

Checked out this place because I heard it was doing some alt suff in the Manchester scene. Complete waste of time. Horrible atmosphere due to rude bar staff, not enough variety of drinks & not good prices for students, 3 carlsberg? Would rather go to the Salisbury & drink better beers for less money... so I did.

Visited last week and had a Lees bitter which was off. However, the music was pretty good, it seems to have a late license and it was much less busy than the Castle across the road. I would probably just opt for a lager next time though.

AMAZING! I walked in and they were playing a Brian Eno track Ive never heard anywhere else but my house!! Mark E Smith from the Fall was sat in the back room too. Its the only real alternative music pub Ive found in Manchester. I LOVE IT!!!!

All comments are now null and void as Gullivers is now under new management, it has been completely refurbished and is attracting a brand new clientele. The name is being changed to 'Gulivers Alternative Music Pub and Venue' and will be hosting a whole range of rock bands in the newly refurbished venue upstairs complete with a professional set-up incl. a 4K rig. The beers include two fine J.W.Lees Cask ales and two smooth bitters and San Miguel and Carlsberg on tap.

Definitely a place to check out if your into your music and enjoy a friendly sociable atmosphere.

Rather dodgy on a Saturday night.. only went in because it's impossible to get smokes in the centre of Manchester without a search. (offy on Oldham St)
Incredible place.. heaving with people all having a wild time. A quick half as an excuse to use the loo then escape back to the safety of the Salisbury.
Looks like it could be fun if you like that kind of thing, but too crowded and noisy for my tastes these days. Also got the distinct feeling that more than one drink could be dangerous.

I concur with manc72 - 'interesting' late afternoon karaoke - the place was heaving and everyone was really going for it. Quite welcoming but more than a bit edgy too, with plenty of characters to talk to. Not sure what brand of mayhem ensues later on... A full-on experience for sure, personally I was relieved to get out!

If you want an 'interesting' Manchester pub experience, this is definitely the place, especially the Friday afternoon karaoke sessions...

Popped in for a pint when the Castle was shut. Decent pint of Lees and friendly staff. The sort of place easy to walk by but no complaints. Good pool tables.
