I expect that the view from this pub in the summer is much better than on a January day. But it does overlook the sea. Inside there is a bar area, scattered with pillars and a separate area for diners. Sunday lunch seems popular. Sports on Sky TV are shown in the bar area. The regular ales are now Shepherd Neame Master Brew & Sharp's Doom Bar. A guest was Whitstable Christmas Ale. Not really worth venturing west out of the town for.

Been to this pub a few times in recent years...it's had a make over in the last year and is now leaning towards food.
Ales on three handpumps (two working) at time of visit were SN Master Brew and Whitstable Bay Pale Ale. Can't stand SN beers and the Whitstable Bay was OK. Thatcher's Gold cider plus usual premium and other lagers.
Spanking new pizza oven looked good and there is a new decked area in the garden with seaviews and train noises.
Staff friendly (always have been), atmos' poss a bit sterile. Good if you're passing.

My wife and I needed to go for a walk to get some fresh air so parked the car along the road and popped into this bright and friendly pub. Pleasant pint of Doom Bar too. Nice to see the front door left open on a warm and sunny November day and the views from the garden of the sea really make this pub. A short walk took us down to the shingle beach which we followed into Whitstable.

Very popular with the locals but didn't seem so hot on catering for visitors which is a pity as there are many people (like us!) on holiday in the area. On entering the pub I asked at the bar if there was a children's menu and was told we could order kids portions of anything from the adult menu on the blackboard. We ordered accordingly only to have someone come out from the kitchen to tell us that actually we couldn't order kid's portions of the adult menu after all and that actually there was a children's menu, it just wasn't written down anywhere. Also the things we'd ordered from the blackboard weren't actually available, it just hadn't occured to anyone to rub them off. So we all had to order something different. Once we'd done so, the food arrived with such dizzying speed that there was obviously very little home-cooking going on. I'm sure the locals are used to all these eccentricities but we found it a bit bewildering. Having said that, the beer garden was very nice- how could it not be when it overlooks the sea?- and there were 2 decent ales on.

Lovely boozer with great panoramic views. I hada pint of Timpson's Old Foghorn while I watched wilderbeest sweep majaestically across the plain.

Paid the Rose two visits last week during our stay in Seasalter, and I'm glad we did. Firstly it was within walking distance which meant I could have more than one pint, so a good start there. The pub is very nicely done out, fresh and modern without being clinical and still retains a proper pub feel. The beers on offer (Adnams and Masterbrew) were both excellent, but the food was even better. I can't say enough how nice our dinners were on both occasions, the home-made Thai fishcakes were a wonder on the palate, and the steak and ale pie was also top drawer. The cod and chips, however, was of a different class. One of the best fish suppers I've ever had, and I made sure the chef was informed. Very friendly and polite staff, although as a newcomer I did feel a little exposed by some of the regulars, although seemed harmless enough.
Will definitely be returning on our next trip down to Whitstable.

I love this pub and over the years Maureen has become a very good and trusted friend. I intend to leave her my glass eye in my will.

A really friendly well run pub. Great atmosphere in the bar and the Sunday Lunches are superb. Well worth a visit and fantastic views from the restaurant and garden

Stevie,
I have grown very fond of Maureen too. Her dumplings melt on the tongue while her mania for collecting small, homeless men with beards is most endearing.

I walked into this pub one Tuesday afternoon to be greeted by a young, smiling lady behind the bar. I said: "Hast thou not scooped me up as milk and cast me aside as cheese?' She called a big man with a beard from out back and he asked me to leave.

Wish i could live next door. Lovely friendly pub. Excellent food and friendly service. Maureen's our favourite.

Lots of beery men sitting staring at Sky sports. Walked in, walked straight out again.

A nice local pub with a decent garden with a kids area and great views out onto the sea.
Does pretty good food and has occasional (rather hard) quizzes.
Beers well kept and friendly staff.
