Our latest visit saw us supping Hawkshead bitter and there were no complaints. The Tele was recently mentioned in the Camra mag and got a glowing review I'm glad to say.

Betty Stodges was the brew that the regulars recommended on our recent visit to New Brighton and it didn't half go down well. If you like a bit of banter with your pint then the Tele is paradise. Mind you it definately isn't a footy pub, so don't expect Sky at lunchtime. It's a conversation place, no background pop music thank God and only selected vulgarity. We stayed for lunch on this occasion and my word we got more than our money's worth.

We paid a flying visit to the Tele on our way to Prenton Park to watch the Rovers and got into conversation with the regulars as usual. The pints flowed and we almost missed the match.

We have become "regulars" in The Tele. That is we visit it every two or three months whenever we are in the UK and we always have a good time with locals, who are a grand bunch. This time we partook in several rounds, which meant getting through four or five pints of Brain's SA Welsh Ale, a rather dark brew in the Cains tradition. Went down a treat. Looking forward to our next visit.

We were a bit disappointed by the ale selection on our Wednesday evening visit to the Telegraph. Referring back to my last review in 2010, I can see a few different ales. However, this time most of the ales were fairly ordinary - Wells Bombardier, Shepherd Neame Spitfire, Bass, Wychwood Hobgoblin & Ossett Yorkshire Blonde. Am reducing my rating slightly. Although the number of customers here would suggest that it is still popular locally.

Revisited the other day. Friendly as per usual but the beer left much to be desired. Ossett Yorkshire Blonde & Draught Bass were sampled and were found to be much too cold and not Good Beer Guide standard. I hope that it was just a "blip".

As I said in my previous post I'd be back and I was just before Christmas and I just carried on where I'd left off as if I'd never been away, even down to the same pint, an excellent Yorkshire Blonde. Definately not a place for grumblers. I got on with everybody in the place and I don't have a Mersyside accent. I was tempted to try the lunch as it seemed pretty attractive but we'll leave that for our next visit in the Spring.

Didn't like this place - witnessed the croneyism I hate about a lot of Merseyside pubs, didn't like the clientelle and the ale Lotus IPA wasn't particualrly good.

We took the 432 bus from Sir Thomas Street in Liverpool and went through the tunnel to the Wirral and on the way we saw the Telegraph. Later in the day we popped up the hill and entered the pub and ordered two pints of an excellent Yorkshire Blonde and immediately started a conversation with several very erudite and well-informed regulars. After removing the air from our glasses several times, we set off to another watering-hole around the corner recommended by our new friends. On our next visit we'll definitely be back.

Historic pub that does seem to have had a renovation relatively recently, as the large lounge to the left as you enter is highly unremarkable. However, the vault type room on the other side of the island bar has more character and a cosy atmosphere, full of locals and with low beams and rustic pictures and maps onthe wall. Small TVS are unobtrusive and had SSN on on my recent visit. Strong beer selection, with Bombardier, Shropshire Stout, Ossett Big Red, Coastal 'Angelina' and Youngs Bitter making a varied selection. Enjoyed a pint of the Coastal, well kept.
Mixed local crowd and a good atmosphere throughout.
Not a must visit but a decent enough bet if in Wallasey.

Reasonably busy on our visit on Wednesday evening. 5 real ales were on - Ossett Big Red, Keltec Arthur's Ale, Cottage Broadgauge Bitter, Wem Shropshire Stout and Wells Bombardier. The pub is a typical urban local. The barmaid was friendly and chatty.

Actually, this pub was gutted a few years ago, with all the small rooms knocked into one, and an extension added which destroyed much of teh old character.

Insignificant looking back street boozer. Traditional & unaltered. 5 real ales including Copper Dragon - "Golden Pippin" & CoachHouse - "Summer Sizzler" on my visit. Open & pleasant dining area that looks like it was added to the original pub as the ceiling is noticeably higher. Sheltered smoking area that doesn't impose on the rest of the pub, & a pleasant, grassy beer garden surrounded by high trees which is a contrast to the urban setting. Toilets a bit cramped & stinky. Great value food menu Tues-Thurs 6pm-8pm - Meal & drink for 5.

Unable to find much history here, but a painting depicts pub circa 1910 with horse drawn modern coach, presumably a pub outing. Good old back street town pub, largely unaltered, 2 small areas around central bar plus darts room at rear. Tasteful conservatory extention provides dining area, + exit to smoking area & nice beer garden. 5 hand pulls give 5 rotating beers in very good condition. Great grub Lamb chops 4-75, All Day Breakfast 4.
Occasional Live Music. Bowls club of 40+yrs use public green across road. October Beer Fest in Marquee. Good range of Malts.

Great little pub, one of the few remaining pubs of character in the town.

Great staff, pleasant atmosphere. Slightly spoilt by the addition of the extension in recent years, but also has a bear garden at the side.

Bass, cask ales, and guest ales with Old Speckled Hen, and Jennings Old Cumberland available at time of last visit.
