New owners for 2013 are very rude and will be on a fast decline if they dont learn some manners! I used to drink in this pub quite often until being spoken to like i was on friday night. 'Watch her.. She will end up in prison' is not an acceptable way to speak to your customers!

Decided on a spur of the moment Sunday pub lunch and since I'm fairly new to the area thought we'd sample one of the nearby villages. We approached from Uckfield so parked at the back of the pub in the large car park, to be honest it didn't look much from there. The front is better though with a large board that advertised food so in we went. The barmaid welcomed us immediately and confirmed they were still serving Sunday lunch, we ordered 2 roast dinners and drinks - not sure why they didn't have Guinness, we'll find out next time we go. Dinner was served up very quickly - perfect vegetables, roast meat, potatoes, stuffing and Yorkshire pud. One word FABULOUS. The pub is a proper village pub and we will definitely be going back.

This is a great pub with very friendly atmosphere from the locals, the food is absolutely amazing, the beer is also good but can have its moments, all the staff are very friendly and up for a laugh, all except one who calls himself the landlord but really all he is is a housekeeper looking after the pub until it sells to someone who knows how to run a pub and is`nt rude to his customers and more importantly certainly does not treat his staff like somthing he walked in! it`s quite disgusting behavour, but luckly for the punters and staff he`s never often there, so all in all great pub but very poor so called landlord ha ha ha!!!!!

i used to be a regular here untill the pup changed hands - turns out the new land lord i clueles - such a shame. There would be ocasions you would walk in and there would be vertually no costomers and just the land lord sitting on his laptop - he would tell you he would server you in a minuet and 5 mins later you would still be waiting (not a good idea for a pub) half the locals have either been barred (for no good reason) or have stoped going because of how rude the staff are. In the winter the pub is cold (to the point people have actually gone out side in to the smoking to warm up under the heaters (that are now broken) to warm up. The food is very very poor and over priced for what it is, vertually all of which comes out of the freezer. Had a dessert on one occasion (chocolate sponge) and it was given to me still frozen in the middle. Will not be returning any time soon.

The beer is OK, but as you value your palate, don't eat here. The contents of a chicken "fajita" were luke-warm and looked like lumpy tooth-paste. Appeared to be cubes of processed chicken in salad cream. Quite uneatable. A relief that the landlord didn't ask if everything was all right, as the choice between tact and truth would have been embarrassing.

Maybe we visited on a bad day, but we have no inention of going back to see.

The bar menu was basic but adequate. I hope there's more on offer in the evenings though. There were a variety of Harveys ales - the Sussex Best was perfectly acceptable.
All in all a "decent village pub" as rpadam has said before me.

I've been passing this pub for 12 years and never been in, until today when curiosity got the better of me. It's a very unassuming village pub and difficult to tell if it is open or not without stopping. A small printed list of opening times pinned to the door indicates that it's open all day every day. Why don't they put that on a blackboard where it can be read by passing traffic!

Inside there's a spartan public bar to the left and a dining area to the right, bare boards throughout from what I saw.

Decent village pub, with a friendly landlord. The pint of Harveys Old was spot on.
