Ordinary looking from the outside, and inside. A locals pub, neither friendly nor unfriendly. Had good beer on (my favourite Old Speckled Hen) and live music, a good way to round off a Saturday evening's drinking.

Very empty when we visited on a late Friday afternoon. Limited range of Greene King and speckled Hen but in very good nick. Not a bad pub with friendly bar maid. Good for bus spotting through the window.

Average place with standard beers/lagers. Nothing special and please note that the entry is incorrect. It's the Pipemakers not the Pipemarkers.

Agree it seemed very much a locals pub but the barmaid was friendly enough.
Only two real ales, Greene King and Speckled Hen. On the upside they tasted ok and weren't expensive.
The saloon bar was quite cosy the rest was very open with a pool table and TV for Sky sports. Imagine that part gets pretty lively when there's a game on.
It was afternoon when I was there and one table was full up with young mums and their offspring making the place seem like a creche.
Ok if you like that sort of pub.

Two years ago I rated this place as 6/10 (average). Its gone downhill. Whilst we were not made unwelcome, it is clearly a locals pub, and the landlord doesnt seem to actually have the ability to speak. At all. Which wasnt overly welcoming.
We stayed long enough for the rain shower to pass, and chatted with one of the locals about his drink of lager & light ale (never seen that one before) before moving on, having scored it 4/10 could do better.

This is certainly the best pub that I discovered in Rye for watching sport and even though only Old Speckled Hen and Greene King IPA were available I would say that this was my favourite pub visited in the area. The barmaid/landlady was nice enough and the OSH was on good form. Alongside some standard lagers and Olde English Cider there was an unused hand pump, so maybe they occasionally have a guest on.

There is a quiet saloon bar on one side of the pub for the serious drinkers and the other side is much larger with a pool table in the centre and a dart board at the back of the pub. On the opposite wall there is a projector screen and the pub shows Sky Sports and Setanta. I tried my hand at one of the two quiz machines, but the questions were ultra difficult indicating that someone had already cleaned them out. At about 18:00 the barman/governor came out and covered the pool table and then moved it to the side as the usual Saturday night live entertainment was being set up. I dont know what it was, but I have a terrible feeling it may have been karaoke.

Out the back of the pub there are a few benches lining the driveway that leads into the pub car park. There is also a small smoking shelter found just next to the car park.

This place is a little rough and ready, but it certainly fills a gap in the Rye pub market and it is great if, like me, you like carousing!

Good local pub with sky for footy. No frills and the town needs this type of boozer

Good beer of a Saturday night - but the general carousing atmosphere left one feeling a little out of place.

This place has traditional pub bars where you can sit and enjoy a pint, and a huge barn-type bar where those who like sport can watch the telly.

It's a good pub in Rye. I suppose this is a classic case of "everything's relative". Were in it my home town (Ashford, Kent), then this would be THE place to go to. However, in Rye there's some very good pubs and it's just another good pub in Rye.
