This pub extends quite a way back, with a long bar down the side. Decent covered smoking area at rear of building. 3 ales on, I had the Ubu 'Purity' , a tasty ale.

Came in here thinking I WAS going into The Acorn which is right next door. Flat screens were on with sound up for the footy Spurs v Chelsea. Not Spoons prices though as a pint of Tim Taylors Landlord was 3.10 (was ok though. The 2 other hand pulls had Marstons Pedigree and Adnams Lighthouse.

yes, a very 'spoons-like atmosphere. Beer was OK, TV sound was (thankfully) muted on a Wednesday evening. Nothing to complain about, but not fantastic either.

Re. comment about a Weatherspoons vibe - my exact thoughts. Crowded at 5pm on a Saturday with the local Villa crew in watching their game on the multitude of flatscreens that were on almost every wall. Huge fridges behind the bar stocked up with all kinds of drinks in that Weatherspoons fashion and a decent range of ales on handpump - Adnams Ghost Ship and Ossett Mellow Yellow were taken on this occasion and very reasonable they were too. Friendly service, although only got change back for a tenner instead of the twenty given, so had to chase it back, but otherwise fine. Probably gets very raucous and heaving later on in the evening, but perfectly OK at that time for a pint and to check the footie results.

A nice brick Georgain facade, with pilasters, that has just re-opened after a refurb and no, isnt the Oak. The interior is an open plan room, very clean and bright, with the mix of brown sofas, high tables, stool chairs and a pine polished floor. Yes, a little souless.
The guy behind the bar was massive - looked like an ex American wrestler, but was actually a nice bloke, so one in the eye for all those that employ eye candy with no customer skills. The clientele was younger based, though i didnt feel unwelcome, or that there was going to be any trouble; lads sporting stick up hair and Henley's shirts, the girls in gold high heels.
Beerwise - usual tosh, with Ruddles, London Pride, GK IPA and Pedigree on handpull - common enough, but i was assured the Pride was good and Ruddles was decent enough, so no complaints there
The place struck me, in some ways, as being an up-market Spoons. Its not my kind of place, so i wouldnt go back, but saying that, there would be a lot worse places to visit
