A great shame that the previous landlady retired. I''ve been here a few times on a weekday evening since the new management took over and it has lost all it''s spark and verve. Still a good choice of beer on offer but I do so resent giving money to Greene King. £3.80 for two small bottles of diet tonic water was a complete joke and a rip-off of the highest order. More expensive than their over priced beer! I can safely say that I won''t be going back.

Hard to believe this is a Greedy King pub. I think the policy is to match each GK pub with a local ale usually including a dark beer (often the wonderful Lamplight Porter). Really nice interior and friendly service. Among Southampton's finest and highly recommended.

Cracking pub. Good community pub full of life and character, and welcoming to all. 4 Greene King ales plus 4 changing local ales are on offer. Plus a large range of bottled beers, both Greene King and local. Great value for money meal deals. Great atmosphere and ambiance. The pub has a traditional feel, with original etched windows indicating the original rooms: Public, Bottle & Jug, Private, and Saloon. These have now been merged into one long horseshoe shaped space, which is like two large spaces joined by a curving, narrow banana shaped space. A recent fire has allowed the landlord to refurbish in a sympathetic but imaginative manner, keeping partitions and little nooks, but using a lighter wood, to give a cleaner, lighter look. There is a rare bar billiards table, and an excellent beer garden with children’s play area overlooking the railway line. There is much to like here. And almost next door is the South Western Arms with 10 casks on offer. Considered together these two make one of the best beer destinations in Southampton, second only to the Platform Tavern (which is a brewpub).

My last pub of the day. I have to say that this is probably the best Greene King pub I have ever visited. It was very quiet on Saturday evening, with one guy and his partner playing 60s music in the front bar and a few other people around the corner. The ale selection was good - Greene King IPA, XX Mild & St Edmund's Ale, Yeovil Ruby, Flowerpots Perridge Pale, Itchen Valley The Royal Green Jackets, Wychwood Hobgoblin & Milk Street Funky Monkey. They also had a cider and a perry from JJ's - Sui Cider & Perry-Letic. At 7.5% each, they contrived to finish me off! An 8/10 for me and my pub of the day. Had it have been a bit busier, it might have warranted a 9. Will be back at some point, especially as I enjoyed the nearby South Western Arms on my previous visit.

Visited on match day when atmosphere, service and beer quality were all very good; a really good local catering to a mixture of visitors, many eating the cheapish grub. Staff seemed very knowledgable about their real ales.

My first visit to the Junction since the fire. I timed my visit to coincide with the 'Meet the brewer evening.' What a great event. There are not too many pubs that provide 8 different real ales, sausages & faggots & all free. Very well done to Martin the landlord & his wife Dawn. Also to the Green King head brewer who did the talk. Very informative.
Now it is just stating a fact that you will never have a bad pint at the Junction. You have a selection of between 5 to 8 real ales on tap & many more bottled ones to choose from if that's not enough for you.
On the food side you won't be disappointed. Good value, good quality well above pub food standard & large portions. 'A bit too much for me'.
If you want to talk beer this is the pub for you, some of the most knowledgeable real ale drinkers gather here. No wonder it is a CAMRA rated pub.
I may be bias but for me this pub is heaven. I rate it a 9.5 it lost half a point because I have to travel a long way to get there. But there is a railway station, St Denys 200yds up the road.

First visit since the fire and the subsequent re-furnishment. I think they have done a good job - it is bright and airy but still retains the old drinking areas. Purists may disagree but I was impressed. The main thing is that Greene King have given the licensees freedom to choose locla beers as well as GK products so the beer range has improved immensely. They had ales from Bowmans; Milk Street and Oakleaf and they will change on a regular basis. Staff were very friendly and we heard all about the comings-and-goings of other local pubs! They are having a "Meet the Brewer" night soon so there should be some goodies to be had!! Beer prices were reasonable and cheaper than some other pubs in the area !! Well worth a visit for the beer alone.

Kind of half eating area and half pub. Plenty of ales on and the ones I sculled were all good.

Now open, 8 real ales and a complete restoration. Good to have it back
|
Reopening 18:00 Fri 7th September. Completely renovated and with a much larger range of beers.
|
I am told the pub will reopen but it will take awhile as listed building consent is required for the work that needs to be done.
Hopefully sometime later in the summer.

Terrible news regarding the fire that took place at The Junction on Saturday night. Fortunately no one was injured. I was by no means a regular, probably visited a dozen times a year usually on my way from the station towards the valley, but always received a warm welcome and a top quality pint. It defied the Greene King trend of awful pubs. Heres wishing the landlord and landlady well and genuinely hope to see the pub up and running again in the not too distant future.

Friendly staff, good food, real ales, variety of soft drinks, including hot drinks, lots of involvement in the community and raising money for local charities. Comfortable atmosphere, safe place for lone females to go for a quiet drink with a book. A range of events through the week with games and books available for customer use.

forget the fact that it's greede kerchink, there's lots of other good independant guest beer, great atmosphere, very friendly landlord and staff, and a very nice pub all round

Super Inn Junction (and not just because of the brilliant gossip you can pick up !) is the best way to describe this excellent community pub. St Denys is one of the best places in Southampton to go out for a beer and the Junction is the best pub there. Friday nights and Sunday afternoons (the meat raffle) are my favourite sessions. A proper pub, highly recommended.

Forget the Greene King sign, I had a top class pint of mild (greene King) very good Brains Bitter (Brains) and an splendid pint of Yorkshire terrier (York). I could also have had Timothy Taylors Landlord AND the full range of Greene King beers.
The Licensee's tell me they are going to have even more freedom to source real ales outside of the Green King stable, good news, an already very good pub has just got better.

As noted, this Greedy King pub is an example of how much better GK could be, for example, check out the Brunswick in Bournemouth, which has the best ale selection on the south coast...anyway, i digress....this place is very nice- how the British pub probably used to be and could still be once we get the noose of the brewery system off our necks...good range of beers, not just GK, I had a few Hookey whilst there, well kept- think I might have had a GK mild too!!! There was a meat raffle which was a bit disturbing but we joined in and had a good laugh- good crowd- there is food but we didn't partake so no comment. For chunky cat fans, there is one who liberally strolls about the place offering the customers out. This is a good score for me!

There are two great pubs within a block of each other, close to St Denys station. The competition obviously keeps the standards up, as both are great. This one has a wide selection of ales (don't be put off by the Greene King designation) and quality hot food served quickly and cheerfully, for an amazingly low price. Despite some tables being marked "reserved" when we visited (not sure why), everyone found a seat and had a good time here.
|
GK IPA and Abbot plus the more unusual Mild and Hardy's and Hansons Bitter. Also Bkack Sheep Bitter and 6X. A little disappointed as I thought the guest ales might be better. Decent enough local boozer and worth a stop between South Western and Guide Dog.
|
A great little Pub, was a regular there for many years, and will be returning after a 15 year gap as I will be moving back into the area.
|
Baxterfish is missing the point in his post- this might be a Greene King pub but it sells all their seasonal beers and guests- which have included Tom Woods, Bath Ales, Black Sheep, Wadworths to name a few & the beer is always in excellent condition The interior of the pub is excellent, always spotlessly clean with many original period Victorian features; there is a also a fantastic beer garden. Run by a charming couple, Dawn & Martin who have been here for about 7 years. The food is average but cheap. On balance, the best pub in St Denys- not the best for sheer choice in terms of different beers (that honour goes to The South Western Arms) but the best all rounder.
|
Top class local, a listed victorian pub (still got a bar billiards table), good pub food and a friendly atmosphere.
In the Good Beer Guide because the beer is kept in very good condition. Yes it is Greene King Who are notorious for only ever producing mid-brown low hopped beers but the difference here is that the licencees are continually pushing GK on their guest beer policy. So as well as the full GK range (including the rarely avalable mild) the often have beers like Brains best, Timothy Taylors Landlord and Okells bitter.
This part of Southampton is well served for good real ale pubs and in my opinion the Junction is top of the tree.
|
Very nice pub, but don't understand why it's in the Good Beer Guide as it only does the nationally available GK brands. The SW Arms down the road is far better for beer quality and choice.
|
Excellent family pub in the day - nice garden, kids menu, welcoming environment. Good evening pub too, quality beers, friendly staff, highly recommended.
|
A charming community pub with a great atmosphere!
Its great to sit out in the garden during the summer, though inside it is always warm and cosy. The delicious, uncomplicated pub grub is always served with a smile, and the staff are very friendly.
Well worth a visit if you're nearby!
