Ye Old Bell, Hurleyback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
The building was reputedly built in 1135 (and some of the original customers still look to be drinking there!!). this really is a great building. I tried the local 'Rebellion' ale and happy to say all good. The only downside is the place does attract the 'Public School Underachievers' of the area 'lording it' to anyone who will take any notice. But it is a building that is worth a visit (just ignore the toffs).

Lovely pub/restaurant/hotel in a great location. Food can be quite pricey and not always value for money, but it is great to eat in the gardens on a warm summer's evening. Service is quite slow, so if you're in a hurry find somewhere else for dinner as it can get quite busy.

Friendly staff and they let dogs in the bar and garden. Beer good but at top end of price scale. Food did not eat but other customers were heard to comment and they were disatified, certainly menu is expensive. The pub was very busy, but the 'Rising Sun' was closed and they may have gained the business.

Very good quality beer (Rebellion) and friendly service in the public bar. The food was excellent quality, we had the confit duck (a strange language mix that one!), a steak and lamb shank, however it was expensive and the portions wouldn't leave a hamster full. We also got the feeling we wouldn't be welome as walkers aywhere other than the garden or the small public bar to eat. If we do the Time-Out Marlow Circular Walk again we would eat and drink elsewhere.

August 2009 - Stayed at the pub's accommodation opposite for one night while walking the Thames river path. Chose to sit and eat in the small bar rather than in restaurant - Food very good. Since earlier reviews the real ale is very good (Marlow Rebellion Brewery - on night we stayed there was IPA 3.7% ABV and Mutiny 4.5% ABV) - priced at 3.10 a pint but in very good condition on evening of visit. Breakfast excellent - would recommend to others walking Thames Path as a one-night stop over or if you are camping in village for an early evening drink.

This pub looked really nice to start with: C12 building, lovely bars and garden, friendly staff, the best pork pies I have ever tasted on the bar (we bought all 5).
But things got worse and worse. The barman was superfically friendly but totally messed up the timing in bringing out our lunch. And then he asked the member of our group who had ordered a burger what sauces she would like, even though she was in the toilet. He was full of stock responses. We sat in the garden but a man with a huge strimmer began to cut the lawn, so we had to go in (couldn't he have done that before openeing time?). The then proceded to test the fire alarm and for 25 mins it went toff, extremely loud, in our ears, without any apology from the staff.
First impressions don't always bear up.

Nice pub, extorntionate prices, but well worth a visit if you can afford it. Lovely staff too

Nearly 1000 years old, full of history, tunnels lead through to church and manor house hundreds of yards away apparently. Decent beer garden, friendly staff, fantastic location within short walk of Thames.
