user reviews of the Prince Llewellyn, Beddgelert

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Based almost on the bridge over the river. Nice attractive stone built building with a nicely laid out lounge with a small bar with a brick surround. 4 hand pumps offering a good selection of real ales. Seating, however only average.

That this dump is currently rated as the best pub in Beddgelert on BITE is a total travesty. Reviews in 2008 and 2010 described it as “shabby” and “tatty.” In August 2015 nothing seems to have altered except that the decline has continued. OK, my pint of Robinson's Trooper wasn't too bad quality wise, but there was no enjoyment drinking it in such dreadful surroundings. My wife said that the ladies loo was disgusting and there was not even any toilet paper.

How Robinsons, whose pubs in my book are normally pretty good, can have let this place deteriorate so much is a mystery. Their other two pubs in the village – the Saracen's Head and the Tanronen are both much better. As for the Prince Llewellyn 0/10.

Myself and my Husband have visted The Prince Llewellyn on two occations now and on both of them have had a fantasic stay. The rooms are large, very clean with full tea and coffee facilitys, flat screen t.vs and the ones we stayed in had both a bath and shower!. The service was great really friendy staff and both Helen and Mervin went out of their way to make are stay a most enjoyable one. The food was excellent really tasty with somthing for everyone on the menu we were spoiled for choice. We will be making this hotel our regualar get away and would recommend it to everyone!

Dog friendly, OK for a drink, but better to sit on the benches outside, as it is a tad tatty inside. Wouldn't consider eating anything except crisps in here. Staff and locals speak a lot of Welsh.

Soaked to the skin on a wet and windy October day, our bedraggled and shivering group of walkers were overjoyed to see a cosy wood burning stove as we walked into the Prince Llewellynn. The bad news was that the person running the pub, a pleasant enough young man, was sat right in front of it in a T shirt, with a book and a cup of tea. He went off to get our drinks, leaving his book and mug there as markers of 'his' spot. Maybe he could look up the word 'hospitality' in the dictionary. Then the word 'business'. Because if we hadn't been relegated to a chilly corner, we would have bought a second round. Maybe even a third.

Friendly local that does a nice pint of Robinsons.
The interior is dated and shabby as is the food

I had this place down as Llewelyn Arms in my notebook - silly mistake. This place served Robinson's, as do many pubs in North Wales. It's right on the road, but there is some space for tables and chairs outside. The inside is rather too much like a hotel. Doesn't serve food during the day. The Tanronnen Inn on the other side of the bridge also does Robinson's, and is also a hotel, but is slightly more attractive.

Made a comment about this Pub/Hotel some short time ago but it seems to have been removed, To close to the truth perhaps.
Anyway this is an update on said premises.
Back in the Village this week and for the laugh, paid a visit. Highly disappointed, No laughs, well not at the staff arguments, because----
"It's Changed hands".

For the better of course, These new people know how to run a pub, even a tourist pub, Food was really enjoyable, Beer was Well looked after and tasty,
Landlord is a local, Big guy, Beard, Looks like a farmer,(Prefer-ed language is Welsh, Can't all be perfect I suppose)
Don't know if there's a landlady, He had quite a few ladies around at the time my party was there but thank God the other crowd has gone.
Long may the Prince and these Licensees flourish, I for one will be going back.

What a laugh.
Just spent a few days down there, what a tonic this place is,
food not bad, Pricey but not bad.
Beer! well you can't harm Sam's can you.
But the comedy, Priceless.
Run by a family with some unpronounceable name, They never stopped arguing with each other, We think they thought, they were unhearable.
The raised voices from the kitchen were Hilarious to say the least.
Comfy lounge aria, Lots of slate (expected) open fire place (not lit) slight don't care attitude from staff, In need of a firm hand & better attitude to none Welsh speakers.
Suggest bypassing here and crossing bridge to pub opposite if you want to keep your laughing gear intact.
