Now called The Crown & Pepper. It has aspirations I think.

closed down. Place was a dump full of aggressive teens.

Typical chain pub environment inside. The barman was fine. I ordered a pint of Guinness and it came to £3.90 which I thought was rather steep. Unfortunately, when I went in all the real ales were of, which needless to say was a disappointment. I think if it priced more competitively, say like Weatherspoons it would do better custom as it is dead at lunchtimes.

Good news - I have heard that the current Landlord is leaving at the end of August 2012. Not soon enough if you ask me. So looking forward to a new landlord and hopefully a better pub in the process !!
Ps - its known to us locals as 'The Grim'
Full of lager louts.
Awful place & rubbish food.

This is the first pub i've been to where I've had a full pint of Guinness pulled in one go. The young and quite attractive (wonder how she got the job) girl behind the bar also got flustered when I wanted to order four drinks in one go, she had to enter two into her system, pour them and then ask what else I wanted, they also ran out of gin. Mostly full of chavs, pikeys and fights, unless you're underage and can't get served anywhere else I would just avoid it.

Had a meal here with friends a few weeks ago as everything else in the area was full or we knew to be awful. Good selection of drinks, but food was to be expected - mass produced microwave cuisine. Wrong food was served to us at first, but staff very helpful and apologetic.
Nice layout and they pull an ok pint but this place seems to attract the teens for some reason and I swear most of them are underage. Avoid at the weekends unless you want to see even more teens only drunker! and LOL at previous poster when he said about their "beer garden" being a small dirty patio LMAO! that's exactly what it is! oh and the food SUCKS.
avoid like the plague on football days, if ya dont like footy that is,and maybe a saturday when its full of chavs.food ok but small portions.beer reasonable
I used to go here now and then, but have given up now. The service is appaling. They now advertise a beer garden, which is actually a small dirty patio area. I know its popular at the weekend but if you are over 25 you will hate it.
This is such a dull pub. Full of drunken teens, the place has no heart. Really dark interior, it can't seem to decide if it wants to be a family restaurant or a Croydon boozer. The compromise doesn't work.
Great place to go for a drink and a meal with friends. Only noisey when football or rugby is on. Great place to go for talks and etc
Plastic, over priced, boring chain pub. Haven't eaten there but for a drink The Valley is much nicer.
I went into this pub for a quick drink one evening, and plesently surprised, considering I was in Caterham. Its a real step up from the other pubs around i.e. surrey hounds. Comfy seating, food was cheap and spot on, staff were extremly friendly and happy to help. The manager was friendly and welcomed us, (although seemed very popular with the regulars). This is just what caterham needed, and will definately will my local from now on.!
Soulless cloned chain pub - zero atmosphere, zero charisma. OK for a quick drink, but if you want somewhere with charm or character then keep looking because this ain't the place for you.
Just what Caterham has been crying out for. Nice spacious trendy bar, good selection of beers, comfy sofas, good menu, friendly bar staff, chilled atmosphere.
soulless, sad and boring inside. have heard the food is ok but for the rest of it.....yuk!
VERY NICE AND NEW JUST WHAT CATERHAM NEEDED, MANAGEMENT AND STAFF ARE VERY FRIENDLY AND APPROACHABLE, ALWAYS SERVICE WITH A SMILE, FOOD IS SPOT ON . GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY, WIL DEFINATELY BE MY LOCAL FROM NOW ON

Apparently a Camra recommended pub, the Pilgrim had all the atmosphere of a hotel lobby, although to be fair it was a Sunday night which might not be the best time to visit.
Didn't convince me though that there is a decent pub in Caterham - but it is better than the Surrey Hounds one nearby..
