Phoenix, Hitchinback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
I was going to pay this pub (now called The Venue) a visit on my Xmas pub crawl around Hitchin. However, there was a group of pissed, lary youths wearing cheap, badly-cut suits outside who were glaring at passers-by in as aggressive a manner as they could muster. We decided to give this sad establishment a miss.

Now called The Venue, looks a bit too young for me, but to be fair I have not been in yet

One for the love-to-hate or hate-to-love file. It's true it's rather down and out, but having been here a few times it's not the worst place to go in town.
The best thing about it is the black cat who must live there and always comes out to greet passers-by on the pavement. If it's sunny, he'll roll around a bit for you. Positively minutes of fun...

Possibly the roughest and most run down pub in Hitchin. Don't stand still too long because you will get stuck to the floor and don't trust the bar stools because they are all on the verge of collapsing. A veritable sh*t hole that has to be seen to be believed. I give it 1/10 for curiousity value.

A sruffy dump.
The loos are dripping in piss and carpets sticky.
It's got sky, which redeems it slightly.
A great pub to go to if you're 15, look 15 and want to get served though.

Great atmosphere, very friendly staff, always a good laugh with the locals. Their partys are stuff of ledgend, and there always seems to be at least one a month. Sue the Karaoke bird is totally nuts! Dave, I salute you, it's in my opinion, by far the best pub in Hitchin!
