THE WORSE FOOD EVER SERVED [I SAY SERVED RATHER THAN EATEN AS IT WAS VIRTALLY INEDIBLE ]OF THE THREE OTHER MEALS SERVED TO THOSE ON OUR TABLE IT WAS AGREED THE FOOD WAS OF THE LOWEST QUALITY AND POORLY COOKED ]THAT ANY OF OUR PARTY HAD EVER BEEN SERVED [AND APART FROM REGULARLY EATING OUT IN THE SURROUNDING AREA AND DINING IN FAR FLUNG CORNERS OF THE WORLD ,THIS WAS THE WORSE ],WOULD HAVE COMPLAINED MORE AT TIME BUT THOUGHT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BAD MANNERED TO THE PERSON IN OUR PARTY WHO WAS PAYING FOR OUR [LOOSELY CALLED ]MEALS AS A TREAT ,BUT IT WAS CERTAINLY NOT A TREAT I EVER WANT TO REPEAT ,THE ONE POINT I HAVE AWARDED WAS FOR THE QUAINT OLD BUILDING AND THE NERVOUS EFFORTS OF THE POOR GIRL WHO SEEMED TO HAVE BEEN THROWN IN AT THE DEEP END WITHOUT ANY VISABLE TRAINNING. I WOULD HATE TO THINK THAT ANY OF THE MANY TOURISTS AND VISITORS WHO COME TO LAYCOCK MIGHT CHOOSE THIS VENUE AND SUFFER THE SUBSTANDARD FOOD THAT OUR PARTY DID ,WAS IT THE CHEFS NIGHT OFF OR ?I HOPE SO

Great fire going on a cold Sunday. Most of the tables were set for eating and quite a few reserved. We were quickly shown a table and our drinks order taken. The Wadworths JCB was a new one on me and very good. The menu wasn't overburdened with fancy dishes. It was good homemade fare which arrived quickly and with a smile. It was very good. Maybe slightly over priced but it is a tourist trap and that wouldn't stop me going back.

Built in 1361 as The Inn its the oldest pub in Lacock, one of the oldest in the country and vies for title of longest continuously licensed premises. Exposed beams & fires give this real old pub a cosy atmosphere. A quirky feature of the interior is the "dog-wheel" by the huge fireplace - an iron tread wheel in which a specially bred dog called a Turnspit was tethered to turn the spit as he "walked. A Wadworthshire pub where 2 banks of hand pulls produce just 3 of their beers, but well kept. Food is over priced all mains over 11 except specials of which Bangers+Mash at 9-25 is still well over the top! Large and pleasant beer garden at rear. All in all its well worth a visit.

Paid this fine old worlde pub a visit, at the begining of Summer?Well patronised, just managed to get a table, with the help of a waitress/barmaid,who whilst giving us the Menu,s took our drinks order.on return, took our Food order, drinks and food well presented and tasty, will be back, but must remember that Lacock can be very touristy and a film makers dream, aswell.Great pub none the less.....

I love this pub. The beer is superb, the food is also. The staff are extremely friendly and the locals a delight to chat to. The building is a historic gem, especially the dog wheel.
My favourite time to visit is during the winter months when the fire is lit and tourists aren't so plentiful.

The oldest pub in Lacock - apparently there has been an in on the site since the 12th century. Like the nearby Red Lion, it's another Wadworth's establishment, albeit much smaller and more cosy. Three Wadworth's pumps were on when I was here - JCB / 6X and IPA. The pub has a wonderful fireplace, and a spit which was originally attached to a wheel driven by a "turnspit" - a dog specifically bred to turn the spit. Very good food was available on my visit - I had the home made faggots, which really were excellent. My only slight criticism would be that there's not an awful lot of space to sit down if you just want a drink. I was in Lacock for the weekend, and on my first visit (the Friday night) the restaurant tables were quiet, but there was nowhere to sit. Still, this isn't a big deal as the food is so good that it's worth going the whole hog and getting a table.
