An'Up It's Own Arse' establishment populated with 'Up Their Own Arses' clientelle. Basically an eatery for arseholes to stuff their gullets at.

I VISITED THERE RECENTLY AND FOUND THE BAR STAFF PLEASANT, THE OTHER PATRONS RUDE AND SNOBBISH,THE REAL ALE FAR TOO COLD AND FAR TOO EXPENSIVE AND THE INTERIOR ABSOLUTELY GARISH AND HORRIBLE...

APART FROM THAT IT WAS OK.......

This pub is not very good, and while I don't know for sure if it is a chain, it certainly looks, feels and tastes like one. It's only redeeming feature is a nice outdoor patio space with big awnings and heaters to keep you dry and warm in inclement weather.

I would strongly encourage anyone reading this to give the other local Fox a try. The Fox at Darley Hall isn't a chain and is really trying hard to give locals really good food at a decent price. The food I have had there has been brilliant so far, and the country setting feels a miilion miles from anywhere, even though it is just a mile from the Luton airport. So my advice is to take the extra few minutes to find this slightly hidden gem in the countryside instead of the Fox on the busy main road between Harpenden and Luton. (Oh, and I promise that I have no vested interest in the Darley Hall pub!)

Continues to grow on me - not a "traditional" pub but the atmosphere is very welcoming and the service very good. We recently had lunch, which was excellent, for the price.

Not a huge range of beers (only real ale is Timothy Taylor landlord, which isn't one of my favourites) bu there are others, such as Wiess Bier, which compensate.

Food here is overpriced and disappointing.

Stopped off here on the way to football and very please with the ambience of the place.

Real ale a bit short of choice with only Timothy Taylor Landlord, but plenty of lager choices. I guess it meets their market demands as the clientele was not of the pie and pint brigade.

The home made pizza's were good and certaily filled a big hole.

Good place to go to meet friends and have a chat over bottles of wine and a decent meal.

I used to be the manager here before it was done up all posh like. I used to insist that everyone wore hats. Especially that Eric bloke. He's dead now.

Myself and my friends will never go there again... I live close to the Fox and it's a pub i've known and have been going to for over 20 years. In the winter I took some friends there as a thankyou for helping me out with a serious hard weekends work. It was an overcast chilly Sunday afternoon - we went into the almost empty bar - I got some drinks.. We sat down - then the manageress asked me to remove my hat.. I explained I'd been working solid for 2 days and that I rather wouldn't as I looked embarressingly scruffy underneath It was explained that the Fox had a no-hat policy and she had to INSIST.. Although we could sit outside if we wished.. So thats what we did - sat sipping our drinks in the freezing cold.. Not very nice.. A car pulled up with 3 young men - one of who was wearing a cap... I said - "You'll have to take that off - we just got kicked out of there for wearing a cap..." We got the reply - "My Mate's the manager" - the hatted individual pointed at a greasy long haired youth... Well 20 minutes later we finished our drinks but before leaving we had a look inside and sure enough there's the chap with the baseball cap drinking at the bar with his "Manager" mate... MMmmmm - Thats not good - we went into the pub - complained - asked to see the manageress - who became flushed.. We asked why it was ok for him to wear a cap but not me.. She couldn't explain and became pretty embarressed because there was no proper explanation - I mean after all I was only a paying customer (past tense) - not one of the "Managers Mates..." - IF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE RULES IN A PUB THEY HAVE TO BE FOR EVERYONE..... This pub is so badly run it's a joke. It looks "Contemporary" but aside from that the drinks are expensive and as the food - well you'd be better dining at home. I guess they don't care that we will never go there again - but we really won't.
