Is now listed on the Slug & Lettuce website as 'coming soon' so maybe time for ANOTHER refurb of this dump....

As i ventured in to this public house i could smell the stench of blood and the humiliation of staff being forced to wear t shirts with the crooked surgeon logo on.I walked up to the bar did a 180 degree turn i opened my mouth and asked the barman i then did a 360 degree turn after that i did 180 degree turn and was satisfied by this.I picked a buck up off the floor must of been left by some yanky.I asked the barman for a shot of Jack Daniels he looked at me and laughed the whiskers on my chin stood on end like a cat who has just had a gun fired at it.I then proceded to buy a pint i downed the whole thing like a fish swims in water.I took a look at the menu then slapped my knees and then was asked by the security guards to leave the premieses.

Terrible pub all round. Characterless, overpriced and very poor service from staff who were more interested in the their private lifes than serving the very few customers who had ventured in.

This pub used to be so great whats happened the food was pratically 2 for 1 pudding buy one get one free. Its full to the brim off snobs i was in there a few weeks ago this place seems to be attracting middle class prats who dance around. What happened to good old fashioned morris danceing.4.50 for a pint of Peroni fair enough its the westend but its not stringfellows where atleast you get to see a bit of nipple when you order your drink.Overpriced rubbish and i think the pipes need cleaning no ales on tap "Good thing".The music is on full blast making phone calls to people pratically extinct.seems to be full of old blokes in here aswell maybe it should be renamed Jurrasic Park. The football is hown on tv with full blast music so you wanas here the footy but instead you hear "Whats that coming over the hill isit a monster".I would come here again some staff were friendly i think ill stick to Moon Under Water.Bingo.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon to watch the Horse Racing and what do they show on a saturday afternoon? Football. Its changed it name it used to be called the Crooked Billet and has been moved from Catford i think.I asked the barmen for an ale and it wasnt on tap when i had a pint of tettleys here 3 weeks ago,Decor was ok i enjoyed the picture on the wall of the surgeon escpaicaly the pic of the man playing football with a stuffed hedgehog.I ordered some food from the paper menu YES PAPER MENU! ON A CLIP BOARD YES A CLIP BOARD i thought it was an april fools joke seen as it was 2 weeks after that event it occured to me that it realy wasnt. The manager has alot to ask for maybe it should be called The Crooked Manager.I ordered the beef lamb stew and dumplings but it wasnt on the menu.So i went for a bowl of chips instead when i say bowl i mean egg cup.after waiting 42 minutes they came colder then a polar bears frezzer. The waitress said that there was a probleam in the kitchen.I think it was the manager gave me an ice cold stare.I kept sking if they was going to show the horse racing they said they never show horse racing.I proped up the bar for a while and there was smell of sulphur emulating from the bar staff area. The glass collector also collected my glass before i even had a chance to swipe the pint glass and have it at home .Basicaly its turned in to a slug and lettice. All in all i t was ok in there i think ill stick to me pint of Green King in the Blue Lotus Pub in soho.

Whats happened to this place since my last visit ? Changed its name, lost its ales (yep its one of those pubs with lots of pumps but no beer). It was a wednesday afternoon, quite a few Juve fans in town for the game with chelsea. The staff seemed to be stressed. No beer , no cheer.
On the plus side, if you are out with a crowd, its a roomy place.

came here saturday afternoon as part of a pub crawl. several of my friends were sharing a hot dog costume at various points of the afternoon. good atmosphere with the six nations rugby on the big screen. and the food was good too.
i have been here on a saturday night though and seen its impossible to get served for ages, but in the middle of london thats to be expected. would come back but be choosy about WHEN.

Seems to be a small range of draught beers, and at West End prices. Food has gone a bit upmarket, and the decor seems good. Staff are friendly and helpful, and I was suprised when a waitress offered to take my order. Seems to be a friendly crowd in there, however don't expect to get a seat during the football or on a friday & saturday night!

Been in a here a few times though they have changed the menus a bit but a great pub in lesciter square. Its only flaw that it is a pub in london i would like it if i could be served be an english man haveing to say what i want 5 times.Out of the 4 times i have been here i have only been served by one english guy who gave me good table service. The Largers on tap are good.A round of drinks aslong as there largers should b around 12-30.Good pub in the heart of london would go there again and recomend.

The Crooked Surgeon is just off Leicester Square so don't expect drinks to be cheap.
That aside it's a decent pub if you're in central London and want to watch the football.
If you don't want to watch the football then i suggest the Captains Cabin on Norris St just off Picadilly or one of the numerous Samuel Smith's pubs in Soho.

Crooked by name, crooked by nature. I bought a large round of drinks and was horrified to discover that the bartender had added a gratuity to the bill without my consent. The round was 29.95 and the "gratuity" was the same amount, making the round a whopping 60. Criminal behaviour.

I went here to meet some too-long-gone mates and former work colleagues, and firmly expected it to be a place I wouldn't touch with a burning flagpole. Well, it surprised me - very friendly, smiling staff, decent prices and a good range of beer (though I stuck to lager, shamefully). Even the bogs were clean enough to deserve a positive comment. Not a place for me, but considering the location a lot better than expected. Blimey.

I would highly recommend visiting this venue, the atmosphere is great, food of a good qqality and a variety of products are on offer. The staff are always friendly and the service is great. I suggest that anyone who thinks otherwise, and I notice the comments are a little out of date, visits again as it is certainly one of the best pubs in the area.

Still basically the old hogshead, nothing has changed except for a slightly darker refurb. Still a good place to watch football (although sometimes you have to nag the bar staff to put the sound on). Still a popular starting point for numerous birthdays, hen and stag parties etc. The Stella tasted a bit strange and then I noticed that the next pint out was full of yeast / mould............
|
This place is fairly good if you are in the area and looking for a place not too rammed. Recently had a refurb and looks much better than the old hogs-head days. Good selection of lagers, but be warned, this just may be the MOST EXPENSIVE pub in London. 3.60 for a pint of Heineken. HA!

real ale choice serously depleted since my last visit though Deuchars in excelent condition, pretty average pub - there are better options in the area

Was in on Wednesday 11/4 and found it a very friendly and decent pub until 10.40. Was asked to vacate my seat to go and stand in the cramped bar area so they could wash the tables and put the chairs up. Did not hear a last orders bell and tried to get another beer at 10.50. The barman said nothing but made a slit throat action. Could not believe that a bar in the west end closes at 11.15 and does not sound a last orders bell.

Fairly large pub close to Leicester Square which doesn't seem to have the queue of people outside. Beer ok. 2 pool tables upstairs
