On our way to Dartmoor Prison we stopped here for a late lunch.
Reported to be the oldest surviving building in Princetown.
Small bar area offering 6 ales, 4 from Dartmoor Brewery, Fullers London Pride and St Austall Tribute. I opted for a pint of Jail Ale (appropriately named)
Two bar man, who were quick and pleasant. I ordered food along with our drinks. The food was decent pub grub, though it took a bit time to arrive at our table.
Old wooden beams, little booths with slate table tops, old fashioned carpet throughout. A few nick nacks and pictures of old Princeton and Dartmoor prison hanging on the walls
A decent pub but Princetown is a very strange town…very much “league of gentleman” !!
Another good tick for me however while I was in the area on holiday

Visited here while on holiday there were 7 of us and two dogs, we could not of been made more welcome beer and cider top rate, staff professional and informative with a really friendly attitude and the food is fantastic, one of the best meals we had out during our two week stay in devon

only had time for a quick half pint.looked like a pub which was a food pub and was busy as it was saturday lunch time.pity had not time to stop as the pub had a large menu

Fairly large pub in the middle of Princetown that seemed to cater well for walkers, cyclicts and other tourists, who were all there in reasonable numbers chatting about their exploits that day. 4 ales were being served last Saturday - Dartmoor IPA & Jail Ale, St Austell Tribute & Milk Street Funky Monkey. The Funky Monkey was quite up my street. Healeys Cornish Rattler was the keg cider.

I recently visited the Plume of Feathers and found the staff to be friendly, the San Miguel was good and the meal I had was excellent. This is another pub I would definitely visit again.

Great pub great location and great campsite at the back. 10/10

Remembering it from the '90s, paid a visit mid-week for food rather than with any expectation of the beer since dropped out of the GBG. The Dartmoor was Beer Guide quality, and the food was unpretentious but very tasty (if a bit slow due to volume of custom). Attractive pub as well, liked it a lot.

There was a problem for a while with the landlady however this appears to have been resolved. Staff are now cheerful and helpful, beer is excellent, Food is good and well cooked although a change of chef means that it is not as imaginative as it was last year.

Stopped by for lunch last week, after finding the landlord of the PoW was more interested in just about anything than serving customers. This pub was certainly better than the review below might suggest - the beer (Dartmoor IPA) was top and the food- especially the ploughmans - was pretty special!

This used to be such a brilliant pub, with fantastic food and drink and a really welcoming feeling about it. Their syrup sponge pudding with clotted cream was better than........! Then it got sold a few years ago and taken over by new people who seemed to have more sophisticated plans. Result? A posh (pretentious) menu full of stuff you don't want after a walk on the moor, and a far less welcoming feeling. We drink at the Prince of Wales now - food there isn't as good as it used to be at the Plume, but it's much the better bet now. NB we last went to this pub Easter 2008, so if there's been a radical improvement since then, I'll take it all back with great pleasure, and I'll give an update after this Easter!

Food looked ok, beer was ok, Accommodation not fit for animals.
Landlord very unfriendly. Don't give him your money, walk 50 yards down the road to the Prince of Wales and experience genuine hospitality in a warm friendly setting.

Food is good, Beer is OK, Accommodation needs radical improvement.
