user reviews of the Rising Sun, Stanwell

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I used to work fairly close to the Rising Sun. But I never actually managed to find my way inside. But using a free evening between Christmas and New Year, this was the first port of call on a crawl of Surrey pubs. To be honest, it was quite disappointing. It's very much a locals pub, that probably accommodates a few local workers too. The ale selection was poor - just Greene King London Glory & Hardy and Hanson's Bitter. I think there are better pubs in Stanwell. But there's nothing particularly good in the village.

Just had lunch in this pub after a recommendation. Very nice welcome, excellent vfm food and very tasty. Bar staff very welcoming. The pub is just right, it was our first visit and we will be back.

After moving to the area we we were looking for a nice family friendly pub. We were told that this pub was just that and had the added bonus of decent food.
Unfortunately this is not what we found, an unpleasant atmosphere, more than our fair share of unpleasant stares. Certainly not family friendly, it may do the most amazing food- we wouldnt know. We didnt hang around to find out. We took our custom to the harvester by the hospital. A shame really, we eat out alot and would rather have given money to a local pub than a pub chain.

To reply to rexoid 2 reviews below you are entitleded to your opinion but I am going to state a few facts
Number 1 .. your opinion is biased as you are barred
Number 2 .. This pub as plenty of good customers that are valued
Number 3. If the owners wanted us gone we would be gone
Number 4. I do not hide behind a screen name
Number 5. This is definitely not a druggie pub that's why people get barred.

The Management.

From what i hear the owner wants shot of the new management, because of the way they are running this once well respected local pub that no longer welcomes all with open arms, but instead seems to bar all their regulars and turns a blind eye to the open use of drugs on the premises. There is a reason that other local pubs are staying open until closing time and not closing EARLY,like they had too the other night due to lack of customers. p.s everyone was down the Wheatsheaf

Unfortunately, this pub used too be great! The new managment are really screwing things up. I dont know what there end game is. They dont want regulars, new customers and dare i say foreigners, Local or holiday makers. So if you want a pub that endorses DRUGS then by all means, frequent this establishment. Or make it your last drug spot before your flight home;)

Because of the customers I have always loved this pub, it is friendly, trouble free, one of the cheapest pubs in the area and as Trigger123 said has the best, warmest smoking area. After years of Kay and Dave 'ownership' it has recently been taken over by a new family. Tom and Nicky are a cheerful, happy couple who obviously love what they do. Since they arrived the pub is cleaner, happier and best of all food driven (one of the things that had let it down badly). It was a surprise to discover that the kitchen has an oven as before everything had been microwaved or deep fat fried in dirty oil. Now it is freshly made, has a huge choice, generous portions and very reasonably priced. As they are still new I wont be too gushy but if it keeps going the way it is Ill never have to turn my oven on again!

I met Dave, (the owner) while on a business trip. He invited me back to the pub and found the beer was perfect, the atmosphere was great, and the owners& employees were some of the friendliest people I've ever met! There was a number of regulars there and they also treated me like a regular... I got the opportunity to go back again last year and it was as good as the first time.
Highly recommended!

Best place to drink in Stanwell. Love the outside TV great for smokers who can stay dry and warm and never miss a goal. The beer is good, i also like the fact that your dogs are welcome. Basic food tho could be better.

Decent pub/food outlet, with three handpulls (the Black Sheep was fine).

Best place in Stanwell for a beer at the mo.
