Ox, Castlefieldback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
The Ox bills itself as a gastropub. But it still offers a decent ale range and the bar staff were friendly. Beers on were slightly better than the White Lion nearby, although similar - Copper Dragon Golden Pippin, Taylor Landlord, Caledonian Deuchars IPA & Black Sheep Best. Westons Old Rosie cider was also available. The interior has been kept fairly traditional, despite the emphasis on food.

I can't really judge this as a drinking pub. But as a casual hospitable restaurant that serves great food I think it does a great job. Children very welcome, a wide variety of food at many price points. You an easily drop in for a sandwich and a pint, or have a full three course, quite fancy, meal. Good stuff

I've been in here twice recently. Once for Sunday lunch and once for a midweek drink.
The food was excellent. The best pub roast I've had in a long time. 12 for 2 courses but if the food is good then I dont mind paying. The staff on both occasions were polite and attentive. It's quite a dark pub but I like that.

Formerly the Oxnoble, this street-corner pub directly opposite the Museum of Science and Industry reinvented itself as a 'gastropub' a few years ago. That would normally be enough to put me off, but it's not as bad as many places of its ilk. One large L-shaped room hugs a bar, with 2 real fires and a lot of exposed brickwork (including central pillars) adding character and creating a more intimate setting. The corner of the L is reserved for dininng but the rest is primarily for drinkers, although you can drink here as well. Both traditional seating and sofas avaialble, and old pictures on the walls. Black Sheep, the lesser-sighted (these days) Boddingtons Cask, Copper Dragon Black Gold and Landlord avaialable. Black Gold was good, a smooth mild which goes down well. Not a Manchester must but a decent enough pub, despite its off-putting moniker.

OKish Pub, good beer on. Food looked good but a bit pricey. Drinks pricey too.

Nice 'bricks and mortar' pub with some interesting old photographs and oil style lights round the walls. Gets quite busy with eaters on a Friday and Saturday evening and was a bit annoyed that several tables were empty with "Reserved" signs on, meaning people just wanting a few drinks were squashed into the side room.

"The best Gastro pub in the North West" according to The Independent apparently. Can't argue as food was excellent, a good choice of nicely kept beers and the occasional star of the small screen (just round the corner from Granada Studios), and you can even stay overnight for 50 a double room. Didn't catch the chaps names, but the service was excellent.Highly recommended.
