Fox Inn, Newbournback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
I must be a mug for this place All fine until time to pay! Cheapest beer. Adnam's Bitter at an all time high of £3.48. Hadn't the courage to ask about any others, having being stung as in previous reviews. Good to know The Fox continues to maintain its high standard! Despite the pricing policy, the car park never looks as empty as the header picture and they seem to have no problem extracting the readies, although I am led to believe many of its former locals have sought pastures new. As I reiterate, Nice Pub, shame about the beer price. Otherwise if you put price aside, you will not be disappointed. Date of visit 13/06/2014

Hops 'n' Malt:
I too visited this pub long, long ago, when staying in Waldringfield, and remember it exactly as you describe (Tolly Cobbold were still brewing then, and the Rolling Stones had just released "Let It Bleed").
I've often wondered how it turned out, and was interested to read the reviews. Hope I pass that way again before too long.

Great food is still available at the Fox, today's Celery and Stilton soup was a real showstopper. The beer price has climbed since my last visit. Today Sharp's Doombar was on at £3.88: More worrying was local brewer Adnam's Spindrift at an all time record price for me for a Monday Lunchtime in rural Suffolk.......£3.98. The standard of presentation and service remain excellent as before. Shame about the beer price, spoils an otherwise perfect pub.

Top marks to the Fox for being able to maintain a consistent high standard. The food remains excellent, and the beer price is still at a level guaranteed to curb excess enjoyment.

This pub has all the rural charm and character of a bygone age, but has its finger firmly on the pulse of survival in the 21st Century. This is well hidden away in the village of Newbourne, but signposted well from the main A12 trunk road. Monday lunchtime eats on a somewhat cold and damp summer day was a surprise, expecting it to be deserted, it was nicely full, warm and cosy. Good range of hand pulled ales, plus the usual beer factory offerings. Foodwise enough choice for most tastes, all priced at the upper end, but that said, reasonable value as the portions were all larger than expected, given that our party of 4 had chosen from the "2 courses for 9.95" selection. Good attentive service, even though these were bar meals. For a more formal gathering, there is a rather nice dining room. Other reviews hint that the quality offering can be variable, but for us the food was fine.Outside a large beer garden overlooks a duckpond and the car park, all in all a good setting for a drink on warmer days. Alas, as the pub is in the same group as the nearby Maybush, the final bill was no surprise. They still sell expensive beer.....Plain Adnam's Bitter at 3.28 and St Austell Tribute as a guest ale had travelled well, but well overpriced at an eye watering 3.78, as printed on the bill. In conclusion, a very pleasant pub, but for me just a little too expensive to be a regular haunt.

worst pub food i ever had and expensive, good range of beers though and quaint atmosphere, good just for drinks.

We were invited by some friends for a very pleasant lunchtime, very good quality food and reasonable prices, friendly attentive staff, highly recommended.

This pub is fantastic. I went last week for the first time and i would recommend it to anyone.
The pub itself is beautiful, and inside its very old fashioned with candles all over the place including on each table. It made it feel very cosy.
The only downside are the toilet which are very basic, but they are in the process of having them re-done at the moment.
My husband ordered the sirloin steak which is one of the most expensive things on the menu ... but it was worth every penny. I had the hamburger which came with homemade coleslaw, salad, chips, bacon and cheese. It was to die for.
All the meat comes from Five Winds in Melton, so you know the meat is going to be five star.
I cant wait to go back again, and i have a feeling it might become a regular treat for us.

New chefs and kitchen staff have created a new menu which sets this pub apart from the rest of the chain... who all create their own menus. The beer & ale is always of the highest standard.
|
Dreadful food and expensive prices. Will not be visiting this pub or any others in the chain again (Maybush, Oyster, Wilford Bridge)
serves under average food at above average prices
|
Please note that this pub is in the village of NEWBOURNE not Newbourn
This may be why it has so few great reviews.

This part of the a chain now - sadly. It used to be a nice place to get good old fashioned meals but it now seems to serve alot of dishes with chips whic are nice but not anything special food wise. But it is nice old fashioned pub with nice staff and worth a visit. They do alot of lunchtime specials.

I last visited this very attractive Pub about thirty(+) years ago, when the beer was served straight from barrels behind the bar, it was a real old drinking pub back then, now its a GastroPub and I am in no way intending this detrimentally, we went there to dine and the food was excellent, the service warm, friendly and relaxed, not always an easy effect to create when running around like a blue arsed fly yourself but in this case admirably done, four of us, three courses each, all selections different, all served very smoothly, Great, and all for about 20 a head. The beer, Adnams, Not bad, perhaps a wee bit too cold and a great shame that they seem to think that all beer needs to be served as though it should have a chocolate flake stuck in the top,(Sparklers, Ugh!) but there, I make no apology for being a certified, grumpy old man. There appeared to be a good drinking atmosphere at the bar and the bar staff were attentive and helpful, so I will forgive the transgression. In all a very enjoyable experience.
