Under new management since previous reviews for this pub. New landlady is really trying hard to build a great atmosphere with a good selection of drinks, regular events and reasonable food. Pool, darts, sports TV and live music. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Very handy for train station (right opposite). Used regularly by local rugby clubs so can get really lively.

Went in there the Saturday before last, to see a friends band. The atmosphere is nothing fantastic and they were charging £3.70 for a pint of Reverent James.
I thought this was a bit expensive. The nearby Glue pot, has a good range of really well kept beers, from £2.70 - £3.30 in a friendly atmosphere.
The Castle in Old town is also friendly and has Timothy Taylors Landlord a lovely beer in really excellent condition for £3.10. They also have good regular bands and sky-sports.

Pretty steady trade yesterday afternoon including diners.
6X and Adnams Southwold on offer - perhaps not the most imaginative selection but both were in good condition. Friendly and efficient lady serving.
A large, open plan pub with a pool table.

Big sign up again 'pub for lease' will anybody ever make a go of this place? Which by rights opposite the station ought to be a goldmine, but it just never seems to get going.....
|
This pub was taken over mid 2010 and now has a good selection of real ales, friendly staff and feels like a proper pub. Worth a visit if you are waiting for a train or just to pop in a have a decent pint of ale

Popped in yesterday afternoon for a quick pint, 3.07 for a pint of 4.2% abv guest beer is well over the top for Swindon, that was probably why, even with the GW opposite closed only 3 people were in here at 1400 on a weekday afternoon. With Wetherspoons etc so near, the people who run this pub need to seriously rethink their pricing policy.....before they go to the wall.

The Queen's Tap is a pleasant pub with a single, large u-shaped bar, bare floorboards, right opposite the railway station. The reception from the staff was very welcoming, and the locals were friendly. There were snacks on the bar which added to the welcome. While the pub wasn't too busy, there was still a feeling of activity and liveliness about it. Three ales on, I had the 6X which was in perfect condition. Recommended for a quick pint while waiting for a train, and I would be happy to drop in as part of a crawl.
|
probably more popular now since some 22 year old muppet was put in as manager of the GW opposite (according to the local paper he's Arkells youngest landlord) hardly a claim to fame. This place is the best its been for a long time, lets hope it stays this way, if only a microbrewery would take it over.
|
Adnams Bitter and 6X for 2.60 and excellent Titanic stout for 3 a pt. Reasonably friendly welcome and of note is that the same landlord that nobody thought would make a go of the place is still here. Not too bad.
|
Not bad.
I go in the Tap quite often when waiting for a pick-up from the station.
Very cliquey though. I can never seem to engage the bar staff in polite small talk, even though they are all too willing to chat away to the soaks who permanently inhabit the place.
Good beer, cold service.

Clarks (of Wakefield) blonde ale on tap this week, maybe the guest ale policy is getting more adventurous here?
|
Still nice and tidy, food trade seems to have picked up, guest beers still rather dull but a welcome change from the Arkells across the road. Nice walled garden to sit in on a fine day, good effort being made by current landlord/lady, they deserve some sucess.
|
Much better since its refurbishment, now a proper pub again, food served and 3 hand pumped beers on tap, usually 2 are a guest, from a limited list I suspect. Now a better bet that the GW opposite who's prices are frankly ridiculous now.
|
nice pint of 6X to be had ;-)
|
improved beyond all recognition since reurbishmant / new landlords took over

Refurbished, and the Adnams was drinkable, so I'll up my rating. There's better a very short walk away, but it's not now an automatic walkpast.
|
Hosed recently,Adnams is ok,they're making a bigger effort than has been made for years. Mind you it'll probably all go down the tubes in a few months.
|
The first thing you see when leaving Swindon railway station - keep going!
