Quite enjoyed the pub. The beer garden is the best feature so only works when the sun is shining, when it was this was where we headed during our weeks stay. The food was mostly good but we had a long delay on one occasion which was compensated for by the good weather and the offer of a free drink after complaining (not taken up on though). In all the preferred choice of pub in Cartmel. Thought one staff member was excellent the other abrupt.

Reasonably busy pub with most punters choosing to take advantage of the large garden at the rear. It has a relaxing setting next to the river. Inside is a bit dark. Ales were Unsworth's Yard Freedom & Sir Edgar Harrington's Last Wolf, Bowness Bay Swan Blonde & Mere Gold & Old School Hopscotch. The bar staff seemed a bit grumpy. But overall we preferred this pub in Cartmel, due to its setting and better ale range.

More open plan than the other pubs in Cartmel but still has a traditional feel. Seemed to attract a livelier crowd (perhaps because larger groups can congregate easier here). Unsworth Yard's Crusader Gold and Sir Edgar Harrington's Last Wolf were on sale on Saturday as well as Cross Bay's Sunset and Old School Brewery's Detention and Textbook so a good choice of local (or pretty local) ales. Wine is poor though. Worth a visit.

Lovely, friendly pub. Just had a good walk in the local area and as it was just past mid day and starting to rain, it was only polite to pop into a pub. Served an excellent pint of beer, roaring fire was just being lit (it was May after all) and sat down in cosy chairs to enjoy the beer. Within 10 minutes a fair few people came in from the rain and were ordering food. Only stayed for a pint, but looked like a nice pub.

The worst place I've ever been, please save yourself the pain and stay elsewhere unless you are a masochist.

This pub had a much needed re-furbishement a few years ago and it is now a really nice pub to eat and drink in. Does nice pint of Black Sheep and has other guest beers. Well worth a visit along with the other pubs in the village.

Close to Cartmel racecourse, with a good selection of real ales - including local micro's.
Large Beer Garden to rear.
Has an outdoor BBQ and bar on racedays.

Visted the Royal Oak in Desember 07 and It had just been taken over. Everything about this pub was amazing the food and the good staff! I would recomend this pub to almost everyone. All you have to do is ask the locals and they will tell you how Great it is.

Visited this pub on a very quiet Sunday afternoon. We were the only people there. Mind you it was mid-November. Had a very nice pint of Black Sheep, the best of our weekend away. Nice log fire and a traditional country pub but maybe it's not all totally original. The food is OK but for a better bite go to The Cavendish or The Kings Arms, both in Cartmel.
