Pig and Whistle, Cartmelback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Prominent Robinsons pub on the edge of the village that was heaving after the racing on Saturday.
We only had time for 1 drink, for me that was a pint of the very good Trooper, always a good pint and thankfully it was no different on this occasion. 5 other ales on the hand pumps with the majority of these from the Robinson's stable.
Cannot comment much on the decor as it was packed so we took our drinks to the large garden out the back.
Enjoyed a pleasant half and hour in the garden before heading off.
Decent enough pub, I did see they also have a restaurant on site.

Terrific attempt to blend old fashioned hospitality with good beer and fancy food. Very dog friendly, interesting food, very nice locals propping the bar up and some decent regional beer. Good beer garden, no frills although some might think raw venison on the menu is a bit over the top, but this is just a proper pub at heart. Fantastic pink-haired bar lady on when we there and nice feet-on-the ground pensioner (but still working) couple chatting away like the intelligent and pleasant barflies they were!

This pub was taken over in Dec 09, and since then has undergone a total transformation, inside and out. i didn't know it even had a beer garden and now as iv seen with my own eyes there's no better place to be sat as the sun sets over cartmel with the fells in the distance an the lambs racing up and down the beck in field that backs on to the pub... the real ales were the best out of 5 pubs in cartmel that we went to, the staff and the Landlord were very friendly , the dog got 2 dog treats and its own dog bowl of well needed water, brought into the beer garden by the Landlord along with two lolly pops behind his back for the kids.. we had such a good day that we thort we would book a table for the next night, the food was fantastic one of the best meals that iv eaten in a pub in a very long time, so you see, when i read these other comments i just hat to tell you are experiences of The Pig and Whistle 10 out of 10

The first pub you come to from Grange on your way into Cartmel, with a selection of real ales all Robinson / Hartleys.
Real ale OK
Pushing food, but still good service at the bar.

Went in for a pint on a Monday evening in November. It was an OK of Cumbria Way, not sure which brewery. Nice landlord and the other folk in the bar were welcoming. Didn't stay long but would go back. Don't know what the food is like.
