A journey to check out the 2014 Camra pub of the year.
Worth the 120 mile round trip? Well, yeah.
An unspoilt country house with a choice of 5 real ales and 8 ciders. Very friendly locals and staff engaged us in conversation and made for a pleasant hour after a decent walk.

The Salutation is one of those pubs that keeps me eager to tour Britain's pubs. It's an almost unspoilt rural local that stocks a great range of real ale and ciders where locals and visitors alike can engage in friendly conversation in a comfortable environment. This was our favourite pub of 10 Gloucestershire pubs we tried on Sunday. Beers on were St George's Brew D, Salopian Shropshire Gold, Whittingtons Cat Whiskers, Severn Vale Dursley Bitter & Butcombe Bitter. Ciders were Ashton Still & Gwatkin Yarlington Mill, with Bee Sting Perry also on offer. Unsurprisingly, this pub was a CAMRA National Pub of the Year in 2011. What was more surprising was that we saw the outgoing barman in the disappointing Berkeley Arms Hotel shortly afterwards. The Salutation is much more preferable. Definitely recommended.

A right and proper pub. Doesn't look too inviting, but a friendly local inside, and good choice of interesting beers. Not down this way much but will call again if we are.

Lovely beer in a very 'local' local. Farmhands and locals squeeze into the tiny bar - a friendly lot but obviously all well known to each other, so could feel cliquey (sp?) to 'outsiders'! Don and Sue keep 4 excellent real ales, at very keen prices and in wonderful condition. An excellent local boozer, and fine for 'early doors' or a late Saturday night. Limited but adequate 'old fashioned' pub food (scampi, fish, chicken - and chips, of course), and excellent chunky cheese and onion rolls if you're there early evening. Recommended to real ale lovers everywhere.

This is a nice traditional pub out in the country, with 2 or 3 well-kept beers, a simple reasonably-priced menu and is generally welcoming, as long as you don't object to having to squeeze past a gaggle of locals to get to the bar. No frills, but that's fine by me.

Landlord/Brewer Steve has now left to enjoy retirement so sadly no more Eagles Bush beers being brewed on site by the looks of things. New couple running it don't seem to have much of a clue and the place has returend to the clicky locals joint it always was which is such a big shame as this was an oasis in the desert.

Relaxed, small pub outside the village of Berkley which has it's own brewery. Landlord/head brewer Steve brews a variety of beers with usually one of his own brews always on pump and the other 3 pumps consisting usually of local guest beers. Two excellect ciders from ever superb cider makers Gwatkin also on sale. Usually one hot dish on menu at dinnertimes, no food in evenings but filled rolls available at all times.
