Owned now by Greedy Greene King
staying well away.
John O gaunt just a minutes walk on the left of the high street is the best bet

Still an hotel/restaurant bar, but not as expensive as it used to be (i.e. the other boozers in Hungerford have caught up). Spartan modern interior and the only real ale was Greene King IPA, but the service was good.

As others have mentioned this is really a (expensive) restaurant bar. Best option beer-wise is the (bottled) London Pride, but in reality crossing the road to the John O'Gaunt is the better bet - even for pretentious millionaires.

WARNING: This is the most expensive place I have ever had the misfortune to drink at...wait for it... 4.50 for a pint of Old Speckled Hen. No wonder it was waitress service only, if I had known the price when I ordered, I would have walked straight out. Let this be a warning to others. Not much point in moaning about the decor, just imagine walking into an olde worlde coaching inn that used to be owned by Henry VIII or whoever, and finding yourself in an All Bar One or similar.

Brilliant - smart bar rather than pub but good decor and good beer / wine. Helpful staff when we were on, even the ones with foreigh accents were good! Not the cheapest, but then the atmosphere and classy courtyard at the back set this aside from your average pub - not a boozer for the lads but more one for entertaining the missus, mistress or family....certainly a lot nicer than it used to be a couple of years ago...

Congratulations to all at The Bear. Not only was it the most expensive place I've been in all year (if not ever) but you've also cornered the market in non-English speaking barstaff who don't know their Archers (it was for my girlfriend - honest!) from their elbows. Avoid unless you are a pretentious millionaire - which judging by the fact that a fair few people were in there, Hungerford is full of.
