Now called SION, an African bar, if you are white you will be told it's "not your type of place". NO DRAFT BEER, RACIST, AVOID.

Used to be great , but since the influx of paki muslims there is a real sense of terror in this bar . Queens head taxi drivers pimp out girls as young as 10 , in addition to beating them half to death - west midlands police get paid a kickback from the sex sales .

All - Beware of Brian Moles!!:-
I heard he is trying to turn your lovely town of Bearwood into a municipality and he will promote himself to the King. He loves Bearwood so much that he has just bought a house here and calls it Drake house. I also heard he is trying to call this pub the Walter's Arms and promote Fitzy to the local drunk. Also Matron is to become the town Dr and the laundry van is becoming the local bus. Chapel will be compulsory for all residents and he will force you to sign songs too as he plays the organ for all his subjects. Fr David will become the local priest and Dr Belcher the Mayor.
You have been warned!!! I read all this on his iphone in the notes, filed under things to do this weekend.
FYI Brian is a lovely chap and you will love living under his rule.

Closed at the moment. Hasn't altered the atmosphere in there though.

This pub is a rip off. I drank ten pints there last week, and when I woke up the next day I was still thirsty.

In my previous review I stated that they always have a decent ale on, however every visit since july has seen a pump with a Timmy T's Best badge on it but no beer in the barrel. maybe i've just happened to be unlucky on my visits (although i've been in a fair few times) but it does seem like beer is off the menu now. Still a nice enough plae though, although a cheap pint is no longer an option.

Atticus gives those of us Bearwood /Smethwick types who want to pretend we are upper middle class somewhere to drink expensive bottled beer and mingle with a clientele which we are conditioned to see as interesting. If you wanted to impress a date you could take them here. Stone floor tiles and leather chairs await you. Sits awkwardly in the middle of Bearwood, but at least its an option and the management are at least trying. They have performances at the weekend that I have yet to experience. Potentially this could be where Atticus descends into toss-dom, but I digress. In summary - one of the most expensive midweek hangovers I've ever had.

At the moment i'd say Atticus is the best place in Bearwood. They always have a decent ale on (usually Landlord or Ubu) and stock a fair whack of bottled ales. The also do a mighty fine mojito for 4.50. It's nice in the day (albeit a bit cold) for an afternoon drink with a chip butty, but the range of food doesn't really strecth to a meal, it's just sort of snacky type things, although the chip butties are great. It's a bit of a modern bar but not overly poncey. I've only seen it truly busy once, on a saturday night with a band on, normally it's fairly quiet. The gaffer seems alright enough, and the barstaff are friendly, although one is very pushy. They allow well behaved children in the day. All in all, if you'r after a pint in Bearwood these days Atticus is the best place to go.

I really thought this would do something for Bearwood when it opened. I was getting tired of going to the Abbey - too many chavs. However, Atticus is a victim of it's own desire to be trendy. It's like walking into a block of ice. About as much atmosphere as a jar of Marmite. The owner really has to do something about the bar staff. Each time I've been in (and I've tried giving the place a go a fair few times) they all look really pissed off. Don't attempt to talk to them if you're not their mate. The cliques seem to have been sorted out from the beginning. One guy in particular looks like he NEEDS a drink rather than serving them. This all sounds like I have an axe to grind, which I don't. Just very frustrated that the one place which should be a good alternative to the usual pubs round Bearwood is so unwelcoming.

Great new bar in Bearwood, wide range of draught and bottled beers, wine a big spirit choice. Lovely decor with an front outside seating and rear courtyard (for smoking - no smoking inside)Very good range of dj's over the weekend and they've brought back the Bearwood comedy night. The owners tell me that food will soon be on the go. This is just what Bearwood needs - a great trendy bar!
