Needs updating. Reading the previous comment it seems clear that the landlord and his missus are posting fake five star reviews. Truth is its a dirt hole and needs someone to go in there and spend some money. I only had three mouthfuls of beer to leave it on the bar after having a small debate with a member of bar staff complaining it was too warm. If you value your health do not go in there. Needs sorting out.

Lovely management, busy but not packed. Will definitely visit again! I play in a live band regularly and this is the best venue I have ever found. I had a chat with the friendly landlord who informed me about miserable neighbours trying to close the pub down by flooding the council with noise complaints. Apparently they have also been posting bogus reviews online. What a shame, let’s hope this great pub gets the support it deserves!

Rude management. Crammed packed, loud live music. Won't ever go there again unless there is a change of management. I play in a live band regularly so understand sound levels. It was way too loud for the size of the pub. Seems like the pub is very much a toy for the landlord so he can constantly play live music. That's fine, but keep it down!

This pub is vastly underestimated, a warm welcome, very high standards of beer quality and choice.A Kerrang pub most evenings. A lovely place where the temptation is to sit on a sofa and not move for the rest of the day. With the nearby Globe Hotel the best pubs in Weymouth.
Now we are heading towards the autumn, Mondays, and Tuesdays, down at the Duke are quiet. On the first Monday of every month there is a cheese night, anyone is welcome to join in so long as they turn up with some rare pieces of cheese. Wednesday night there are a few more people. Thursday night there are a lot more people. Friday and Saturday nights it is like the Black Hole of Calcutta. Sunday afternoon quite a few people come especially if there is sport on the TV. Live music every night apart from Mondays All types of music rock pop and folk

Popped in while waiting for a curry. Several punters were totally out of it but the pub did not seem threatening. Beer was well kept and staff were good.
The Duke of Cornwall was another Weymouth pub that exceeded my expectations. This pub seemed to have a slightly more edgy feel than the Red Lion or the Globe. But it's another small pub which had dance music playing and boxing on the TV. The clientele was mixed. Ales were Cotleigh Nutcracker Mild, Town Mill Granny's Teeth & Dartmoor Jail Ale. Ciders were Shepton Mallet Cider Mill Somerset Tree Shaker & Addlestones. Worth a visit.

Visiting Weymouth this weekend and was rushing around to find a decent pub with BT Sports so I could watch a particular footie match. A couple we'd been in the day before were just OK. Thankfully we found this place. Really nice locals, and bar staff, and good ale and cider range. Will be back.

Yeovil isn't an old established family brewer re: Fullers, Batemans, St.Austell, it isn't a major international brewer, it brews for a limited number of pubs mainly in its own geographic area( listed on their website). So I class it as a Micro Brewer, the bigger Castle Rock calls themselves a micro brewery, As usual randolf who is seven comes on to BITE to troll during the school holidays when mummy is out,I suppose its better than a porn habit, so well done little chap!
Yes. Alas poor slerpy. He thinks Yoevil is a micro brewery.
This is rather a small old fashioned pub with a back room, it is much tidier than before,RSPB magazines and local papers are available to read. The welcome is friendly and the ale I had( A St.Austell seasonal golden ale) was£2.50, they tend to sell St.Austell, Yoevil and other micro Breweries ales.A locals mammoth drinking competition was going on on my visit, they were well oiled but noisy fun. I was going between various pubs to watch the Ashes cricket, surprisingly this pub has Sky Sports. The landlady recognised me from previous visits and had a chat. This pub is a refreshing change from the "big beer barns" that dominate Weymouth.I feel very comfortable in this pub it certainly has character and characters.I do know that regular live music is played until very late here.I would happily become a regular here. Sadly only one dog now.9/10.
I must admit that the beer is always decent, one regular ale and two ever changing ales on handpump. Always friendly enough but a certain " take us as you find us" attitude to cleanliness and clutter. Music is clearly the main draw here and some very late shifts indeed. I'm happy to be greeted by the elephantine dogs but I can imagine that they divide opinion, they are the landladies pride and joy. An ale for 2.60 is available.
Enjoyed this pub, only thing i had against it,was the beer was too cold for my liking, very friendly though 7/10
Decent locals type pub. On Monday they had Jail Ale (2.80), Crop Circle and DBC Chesil. Liked it.
Very small local with limited seating areas, the pint of Yeovil"BST" was ok but not in great nick,6/10
Definitely one for the avid CAMRA member and not for the tourists (who are well catered for round the corner on the harbour front). It's what I would class as a "straighforward" boozer in a rather sad part of the street. The "Jail Ale" was OK as was my partner's Yeovil Brewery beer. There are live music events but not much more really - I think the real ale is probably the big draw in this pub and I reckon it's one for the lads rather than the mother-in-law!
On first impressions the pub seems a bit down at heel and this didn't leave us throughout the half an hour we stayed. The pub advertises in colourful pen in its window their entry in the GBG, but when upon entry to the gaff you see just a few locals crowding the bar drinking 'stella' and probably bemoaning foreigners and suchlike you have to worry. Barmaid ran a bit of liquid through the pipes as 'you never know what's in there' and then served a sub-standard Dorset Ale, which had to be taken back. Tried the Jail Ale which was passable -just. Place is also over-run by bloody dogs which you have to step over on your way to the bar. Totally underwhelming.

Occupying a fairly central position in Weymouth is The Duke of Cornwall, a pub that is a relatively small, bare boarded single bar.
As we approach the pub, we see large felt tip pen lettering on the plain glass windows advertising cocktails and live music - "Antigua Joe on Friday" - indicating an orientation towards younger customers.
Inside, we find a light pine, wood dominated, cheapish looking modernised interior, with the principal item of note being a large splendid old Devenish & Co mirror. " Shoot the Duke" cocktails are offered at 2 each or 3 for 5. This, together with various montages of customers in various stages of inebriation, reinforces the initial impression that this is not a place worth lingering in for long.
Although this doesn't feel in any way like your typical real ale pub, the pub is listed in CAMRA's 2010 Good Beer Guide. On my recent evening visit, beers on from the 4 pumps were Dartmoor Jail Ale, Dragons Blood from St Georges Brewery in Worcester and a beer from Potbelly Brewery. The Dragons Blood ( 4.8%) , a strongish, ruby porter-style beer was staggeringly good and at 2.60p could validly be considered good value. As a notice in the doorway says " drinking in this pub is not a wealth hazard", although the moreishness of the Dragons Blood did give, even an experienced drinker like me, a bit of a headache the next morning. The Dartmoor Jail Ale was pretty good as well.
As a pub, I didn't warm to this place at all, but the staff were friendly, the beer was superb and the customer mix much better than might have been expected, so you might want to give it a go if you're in town and see for yourself

I am not overly fussy but I do wonder why the public health people allow this kind of hole to exist.A brisk turn of the heel the Boot is five minutes over the Town Bridge.
Visited on the night of May 27th, pub singer on, I tried the Jail Ale and St Austell Wreckers, my other half enjoyed the draught perry. Friendly bar staff, one pub we will revisit should we ever go back to Weymouth. By the way, I guess the toilets are accessed by going behind the bar?!!
Surprisingly quiet on Saturday but it was a very hot day and the beach was FULL. We only had the Dartmoor Jail ale and it was very good. Landlord was very chatty and welcoming. I'm not a great lover of Weymouth pubs but this as solid as they get. If you only have one to go to and like your ale choice this is it.
Nice friendly pub serving well-kept real ales. Good atmosphere.
re-visited this pub over the easter weekend, the duke is now back! , great atmosphere , fantastic little party pub
THIS PUB IS GREAT IT HAS A FANTASTIC ATMOSHERE
Only busy when a decent band is on otherwise it's dead and you get stuck listening to Bernie the manageress slating the woman who owns it claiming she is the reason no customers are in.
visited the duke on mayday weekend , the pub now has new owners , and the atmosphere is not the same as when nick ran the pub .
A quite pub during the week which comes alive at weekends, Yes there is a client generation gap, So What? The Atmosphere is awesome.
Agree with pubgrabber - a mate brought me here for the music (exmate?) - we got lots Abba plus village people and spice girls with overweight locals standing on chairs bouncing all the've got - not pretty. The Princetown Jail Ale (fair) was appropriate not that they all deserve to be locked up but more to keep them from the unsuspecting public
very small pub with a big amosphere. live music friday, saturday, and sunday nights but be early as it gets full.
fantastic little pub , the best party pub in weymouth
Not as good as it thinks it is. If Freddie Mercury impersonators and hen parties full of 50 year olds is your thing though, you may disagree.
