Despite a reservation I was kept waiting for a table for over half an hour. The waitress took our order in the bar which was not nice for my quests. She agreed to provide lots of vegatables. They did not arrive and when I asked for more she argued with me infront of my quests despite being prepared to pay whatever it costs. Dishes were delivered without vegatables. An over crowded rushed pub pretending to be a restuarant.Restaurant prices.

Had a fantstic meal at the Trooper, the starter sharing fish platter was a meal in itself, then opted for more fish - lemon sole which was cooked to perfection. My partners sirloin steak was very tender and I must say we thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening. The staff were very polite and although the meal wasn't cheap it wasn't overly expensive. The guest beer, think it was LBW went down well with my partner, served just at the right temperature apparently.
We wish the owners every success in their new venture.

Worst meal I have had in a long, long time, and very overpriced. The roast potatoes weren't roasted, I doubt they had seen the inside of the oven let alone been allowed to roast. The prices were incredibly high, it after all a pub not a first class restaurant. I have had Sunday roasts at real restaurants in Lichfield Centre, that were less costly.

I had to end the vegetables back as they really were that cold, I had also requested my mash without Horse Radish, the cold dish didn't have horse radish, when it was returned to me, had horse radish in it and was unable to eat it. I didnt bother saying anything and just left it on my plate uneaten Spent 17 per head on a Sunday Roast, for cold vegetables & uncooked roast potatoes. Although I do have to say that the meat was first class. Would not recommend this pub

I mostly agree with stymaster except on the beer front. Greene King IPA and two from Shenstone Brew co ( brewed by Highgate ) was very unremarkable and at 3.25 a pint not worth going out of the way for. However it is good to see a pub open.

It has just re-opened. There's a strong bias to food, which is towards the upper end of pub food. Prices not cheap, but not horrific, food good, good choice of ale and friendly staff.

It seems that The Trooper has had alot of differnet people running it over the last several years. I visited there on the off chance for sunday lunch yesterday and guess what! new people in again. Well I must admit they are lovely people and I have been assured by them that they are going Nowhere!! I was informed by them after talking to them for a while that they have just spent the last 2 months cleaning and repainting it and I must admit it does look very nice, but not only that but it is no longer a restuarant anymore they are turning it into a family pub which serves food. I have tried the food and I must admitt it was very nice proper homecooked food served with real chips and not frozen ones as i expected as there prices are so cheap. So to conclude my review nice food, nice beer, warm welcome, fantastic view and brilliant servicewould highly recommend it

Been a long time since I visited, (before present owners) and having seen the previous comments thought I'd give it another go. Last Saturday lunch time on a visit to Lichfield, and very pleased my friends and I were that we did.
A friendly reception from young James behind the bar and the beer was in good condition. We ordered 4 meals from the specials board, the ingredients of which James was happy to explain and recommend. Although the majority was freshly cooked, there was no undue delay. They certainly don't stint on the size of the portions, and each meal was hot, properly cooked and very tasty. The chef came out to see us and check all OK, and James was very attentive throughout.
Overall excellent value for money, and not expensive. It made our day out!

Nice place. Good service from cheerful barmaid. Good, reasonably priced food in bar. Easy to get to and park. Haven't tried restaurant.
