I dropped in to The Castle whilst walking from Newark Castle Station to Newark North Gate. Only one hand pulled Ale on "Theakstons OP" and that was off. So I settled for a Guinness.
This is a down-at-heel Pub with no atmosphere and nothing to commend it

Called in this pub recently after seeing decent (if old) reviews but found it shabby and beer poor.

Called in to this pub on a trip to Newark, good seslection of ales 6 i believe. Opted for the castle ale brewed by oldershaws, very nice pint well kept & served at right temperature.

Went here on the 12th March, saw the signs saying if you show your CAMRA membership card you will receive a discount. I showed mine to the chap behind the bar and he said the beers are already heavily discounted,so no discount. Had one beer then left, Very disappointed!!!!!!

Everards seemed a wee bit warm when we went in there recently, but other than that, decent enough choice and friendly staff. Previous ocassions the beer has been at right temperature so must have copped for an off day. Worth a visit.

A little gem in Newark town. You could quite easily walk past this place and not even notice it due to it's small size and the fact it's not really very well signed, but if it does catch your eye, have a wander inside. The selection of beer is good if a little bit more expensive than the usual Newark prices and the atmosphere is relaxed and trouble-free. They have live music on some nights too. If you find yourself in Newark, don't walk past this place. Give it a try.

The Country Pub in the Town slogan painted on one of the beams is stretching things somewhat: in fact quite a lot, given the pink walls, TV screen and loud radio station music. Not without interest, with the rear church pew style seating and the mirrors. Several guest ales. The Archers Give Us a Clue in reasonable condition.

I agree with the last posting definately Newarks best kept secret. At time of visit it was selling a local beer from 'Milestone' brewery.
