We visited during Covid19 and the pub did a decent job of keeping things going. The location in Chiswell is pleasant and there are sea views aplenty and a cool dude with a beard, piercings and tattoos served us well.

Atmospheric and of course with a good situation, but expensive for what was a crab sandwich and a bottle of beer coming to over ten quid. Portland does have a lot of pubs and most of them seem to keep going.

I'm sure that on a warm sunny Spring day you could sit outside on the benches and soak up the view and the atmosphere. However on a windy Sunday lunchtime in Autumn it doesn't really work.
There's just two tables in the central proper pub part of the building. The rest is all given over to dining tables. Lucky for us we got there at noon and got one of the two tables. Someone already occupied the other one.
Got a half of overly cold Doom Bar that tasted like the pump hadn't been pulled through that morning.
A family came in with a dog and were clearly put out that there wasn't a table free. Dogs only allowed in centre of pub. Then some others came in with a dog - ditto problem.
Had a pint of Doom Bar that tasted OK as others had ordered some by now.
First dog started yapping at second dog. Really annoying. Non existent atmosphere deteriorated further.
We changed plans and decided to leave. There was a scramble to get the table we were vacating. Could hardly get out for them now blocking the way. As we left the two groups were starting to argue over who should now have the table.

They could ban dogs inside. That'd help for a start. Pub is already rated 5.9 - I can't rate it lower due to the nice location. But it didn't feel like a six today. So I won't rate it.
We went somewhere else but it was no better unfortunately.

Literally just finished my meal here with my partner and unfortunately we are quite disappointed. Ordered 2 whitebait starters, and 2 mains from the "specials" board - seafood paella and seafood linguine. The whitebait was bland and the mains were lacklustre and, I swear, from a packet. I was expecting the seafood to be fresh and tasty given the coastal location but alas I was wrong.

The service wasn't bad but not exactly inspiring either. The view is definitely lovely and the pub itself looks well maintained.

Our pints of Jurassic (a local Dorset ale) were, I'm glad to say, top notch. Also available were Doombar and Adnams Broadside which we didn't try.

5/10

Can't knock the views... Lacks the spark when the sun goes down, its more of a restaurant than a pub, very few seats just for a drink.. As a summer venue it will be great however, we don't get much of that these days....

very nice pub with a backdrop unparalleled by others in the locality.three handpumps featured doombar, marstons ringwood best and adnams broadside,i quaffed the latter which was very nice indeed no doubt due to their cask marque award, only downside was the miserable woman who could not pour a full pint even after it was topped up,great i imagine on a hot sunny day and not in damp cold AUGUST! 6/10

Have spent MANY holidays on The Island (my Uncle was a Portlander) and many hours in "The Cove"; I am delighted that the Inn has remained as I knew, and loved it! Tradition at its Best! Regrettably the journey from N.E.London is now a problem for me, but I will be back when able!! Thanks to your Reviewers for reviving Happy Memories .. Cheers!

Great location for a bank holiday monday walking stop. OK we parked next door and never really got too far with the walk. 3 nicely kept real ales, Ringwood Best , Doom Bar and Adnams. Had a band on outside on the Monday which wasn't too bad either. A nice unexpected stop.

I love this pub, it's perfect in the summer, never TOO busy, and perfect if you want to get away from the mad crowds in Weymouth. Beautiful views of Chesil........plus its where my mum and dad met, so I'd probably love it even if it was a ramshackle dive lol

Great reasonably priced food
Brilliant view for sunsets
Friendly locals
No traditional ciders which is a shame. Please put one and you will be in my top 10 localpubs!

Nice cosy wee pub, with a lovely atmosphere and the sound of the waves crashing onto Chesil Beach.

Lovely location. Beer quality good, but the same selection you get anywhere in the country. There ARE other beers than London Pride and Greene King IPA !

A nice little pub, not too expensive given its tourist trap location. Set on the Chesil Beach coastline it offers superb views from the outside seating area. Has a small restaurant which specialises in locally caught seafood.
