please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Good for Karaoke and a very late night/early hours drink. It's grubby and dirty, so much so that even the rats wear aprons. Owner is a very nice lady. Head barman is well known as a plonker and not very well liked. Beer is ok, good place to watch sport. Two bars, so you get a choice of 2 separate matches. known locally as a bit of a drop outs pub. You do get a fair few losers in their, but there are also some decent people. There is always a very opinionated fat scottish guy who sits in the back bar smoking and stinking the pub out.

Went to the Carpenters Arms last Saturday night and really enjoyed it,There was an excellant band and the atmosphere was great.
I saw the band advertised and decided to give it a go in spite of the vitriolic reviews
that have been posted. All I can say is that the previous reviewers must have had some sortt of axe to grind.
Great pub, great staff and wicked atmosphere, loved it.

I popped into this pub a week ago to watch the second half of the Arsenal cup match .... I thought I had a life of Mars moment .. It was so 1970s that I had to tell people at work. There was a fat bloke sitting at the bar and it took me a while to realise what was odd ... He was smoking!

I went back this Sunday for the second half of a match and had to sit almost alone in the font bar as the back bar was so smokey. I stayed only for 30 minutes and for the first time in almost 7 years came home with my clothes stinking of tobacco .... A horrible establishment and the last time I will visit.

This is the dirtiest smelliest most disgusting pub I have ever been to so dark and dingy and it seemed every single person in the pub was on drugs!! The glasses were dirty and the drinks were over priced and tasted cheap and when i cmplained about it the staff were rude and un helpfull - i wouldnt come here again if you paid me to!!

I hadn't been in the Carpenters for years as it seems quite dingy and is known as a place for where local drop-outs congregate. Having read Philsims review, I thought I'd pop in to see what it's like now.
Sure enough, there were several people smoking inside and I was told that this is tolerated. Apart from this, the whole place is tatty and rundown looking and I can't think of any reason to go there, especially since the best pub in the area, the Victoria Tavern, is just a 2 minute walk.

I don't know what's happened to this pub! I've frequented it for years infrequently as I'm not local. I've always enjoyed the good beer & friendly atmosphere.
I visited it with 2 friends on my recommendation at about 10.00pm on Wednesday the 1st of May 2013. The first thing i noticed was the distinct smell of cigarette smoke. I assumed this was coming from outside. I asked what real ales they had available & was told only IPA. As I like this it wasn't a problem. When it was poured though it was very cloudy. The barman did not seem to notice but I said I wasn't prepared to accept this. The barman agreed that it wasn't really drinkable. I therefore had a soft drink as I don't like keg beer.
We went into the rear bar and were horrified to discover a man sitting at the bar smoking a cigarette in full view of the barman!
I didn't finish my drink & left never to return.
Further, the pub was almost empty (except the smoker & a couple of other obvious regulars). The decor & upholstery in a dilapidated state. A chicken or egg situation as to whether the pub's in a poor state because of the lack of customers or the lack of customers is due to the poor state of the pub!
I do feel they were allowing the man to illegally smoke as they didn't want to upset one of the few paying customers. Unless he was the licencee who simply didn't care!

This pub is Very welcoming!
Tiny inside but got some great old country pub atmosphere and drinks. Staff are pleasent and excellent and regulars actually talk to u rather than stare till u leave. Summer or winter this is a nice little hide out. The objects that are on display all about the place really finish a plesent drinking experience.

Basic two bar pub 5 mins walk from the High St.Back bar is a public bar and the front bar more like a saloon bar.Good outside seating area.Greene King beers on with a guest.Broadside on my visit was in fairly good nick.
