Walsall Arms, Walsallback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
The Walsall Arms is situated in an old industrial street to the east of the town centre. It doesn't look promising at all. The interior has the feeling of a club and there is a skittles alley at the rear. Just the landlord and two local gents were in. They were soon replaced by two younger ladies on the wine. Timothy Taylor Landlord, Wye Valley Bitter & HPA, Ludlow Gold & Holdens Golden Glow were the ales.

Reasonable small locals' pub with two or three ales on. No food apart from filled rolls. Friendly enough.

Brilliant pub. Great range of ales, lovely interioramd friendly staff. One of those when you wonder why you havent usedit more

I wish to echo ' mikastrauk ', the turnround has been fantastic for this well known watering hole , six handpulls with local and distant ales to tempt the palate, during my recent four visits my friends and I have been well pleased with the selection. The noted ' Skittle alley ' has been refurbished as a wellcome facility for the locallity. Food is also making a long missed feature, I will try it , and those that have already, say I have a treat coming. Well done to those that have pulled this pub back up to where it belongs.

Has now changed hands and i must say its fantastic !! Pub has since been bought and has been fully re-furbished .It is a freehouse with traditional ales run by the experienced publicans Jim and Gay chambers ( formerly from the successful Fountain Arms) in Lower Foster Street Open from 12 till late with great skittle nights and a private function room for parties etc.... Ten out of ten !! Tel 01922 649839

Thank goodness this pub is up for sale, it has been going down the pan for about two years to my knowledge. It has suffered from low footfall, hence limited beer choice, subsequently poor quality. Bring on a new owner, but please encourage customers with your plans.

Forgot to say - I would return if / when I'm back in Walsall.

I arrived at about 3:30pm and it was closed! I returned after six and was very pleased with the interior, the ale and the friendly landlady - we had a good chat about Bob Warman from ITV Central News (legend!).
Only one ale available - bit of a disappointment but the one I did have was very good. Landlady did top it up twice before handing it to me, which probably wouldn't be as necessary without a sparkler...

Time for an update: A gem of a building. Half brick and half rendered, a terraced pub in a Walsall side street.
The interior has two rooms. The decor has white walls and wood panel, with lots of old photographs of Walsall and other memorabilia. Nice traditional fireplaces. There is also a skittle alley. The service was very friendly, as were the maturer clientele. It was busy in the small bar.
I completely agree with Roy22. What lets the place down is the choice of beers for such a nice place. Tap stuff with the common Pedigree on handpull, Brakspear Gold (not to my taste), along with the rarer Marston's Bitter. Still no MILD. The bitter was great - but one is enough!
Still a place to go.

I had read good reviews of the Walsall Arms and had missed it on my last visits to Walsall. So, for my first visit, my hopes were high. I have to say that the pub was not as good as I was expecting, but, as I have said, my expectations were very high. The pub itself was lovely. The beer was good. I was just expecting something more. I was glad I went and I will be returning. I would recommend it!

I hate to disagree with the other posters, but the Walsall Arms is a fairly disappointing pub. Having visited it occasionally over many years, I have to say it sadly lets down anyone who knows their beer.
Yes, the location is quaint and quiet, and there is much to like about the building. But beer selection is limited (Marstons Pub) and quality is always somewhere between mediocre and poor.
We have given this place many second chances, returning perhaps more because of its back street charm, hoping that the beer would be a bit better than we remembered it. But sadly, it rarely is. The limited range of real ales tastes frankly stale, and the place itself smells like the smoking ban only came into force yesterday. Surprisingly quiet on a Saturday night, it is impossible to keep real ale in top condition if turnover is slow. This could well be their biggest problem, the place is just too quiet to cut it against the blossoming real ale competition.
So yes, visit this beautiful backstreet boozer, if youre a lager drinker then you may even love it. But real ale drinkers should go armed with directions to the nearby White Lion in Sandwell Street in their pockets, and salvage the rest of their night out there.

What a great pub this would be if it served mild. As it is, it serves guest ales and looks well maintaind from the outside. As there is no mild i cant score as high as i would wish, so please, if i say the Big O is better than Elvis, would you get a mild in????
Do you think i have hinted enough?

Great pub! Skittle Alley, Real Ale, Friendly Bar Staff, Friendly Locals, Rock n Roll!
Although don't tell the landlasy that Elvis is better than the Big O. She won't like that. Actually do tell her, as it's the truth!

Real ale local just outside the town centre, quirky layout inside and skittle alley at the rear. One of Walsall's better pubs
