It's about 10 years since this pub stopped trading, and closed.

Now demolished.

Still shut 2 years later

This place closed a year ago

Now closed down. Shame as it had promise but never lived up to it.
|
After Office Hours. We don't know what we had until it's gone.
|
Major let down, it should be a great place with really good enterainment.... but is just looks drab, and dated.... didn't used to be like that when it first opened....it is about time to gut it and start again....

I've been here a few times and it seems a bit hit and miss in terms of the atmosphere. The last time I visited we were entertained by a covers band who finished the night with people dancing on the bar and tables, including the staff.
Apparently they do nice tapas, though looking at the menu, it's rather expensive tapas and you're not likely to fill yourself up for less than 25 a head, plus wine/beer. It's a nice enough place and certainly worth a visit.

Everytime I go to this place its empty, and as a result it ends up feeling soul-less, even when there was (pretty loud) live music on the last occasion.
Not sure why people seem to avoid the place (or maybe it's me they're avoiding) as it's actually quite nice in there with helpful and friendly staff and a fair selection of lagers and wines.
Will no doubt find myself back in there at some point as Barnet has so little else to offer (apart from the Mitre a few doors down).

Not really my type of place normally and certainly a comedown from The Mitre just down the street where I had spent the early portion of the evening. That said not all that bad at all. Sure it's a modern shop-conversion type of place with the attendant lack of charcter of soul (however the fish tank was nice try to add some measure of individuality). Ales not really catered for, lagers are however plentiful and well served and it's not overly expensive here. Entertainment when I was in there was a good solo act acoustically covering a surprisingly diverse selection of material. Not worthy of going out of your way for, but certainly tolerable for a quick couple before going elsewhere.
|
There was a jazz band in here on Saturday night which seems to have pulled in the punters. I didnt stay long though as there was no ale or Guinness to be seen hiding in between the Amstel and standard lagers.
I suppose this is an ok place if there is a group of you and you fancy staying out late, but Im not sure that Id bother going back though.

"Is this what was once called "The Bat & Goldfish" ? (and then "The Jug & Trumpet") ?"
Yes Bodger - that's the one.

Its a shame that their live acts put their instruments away around midnight as this clears the room. Food is great and the owner is nice. The room is a tunnel shape, which lends poor acoustics when the room is not full. There is a good regualr crowd in there and never any problems. I enjoy it, although i would like to see a 2am license.

Without doubt a superb bar abd restaurant. The food is the best, in my opinion, in North london.
The atmosphere is friendly and safe.
THE BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO THE BARNET AREA IN YEARS

Well, it serves later than everywhere else in town (not that anyone goes out in Barnet anymore), but by Christ, is it boring.

I have to give credit to the current owners for turning a repeat failure of a bar into a busy nightspot. However to me it's a bit like an endless wedding reception. It's just very...polite. Live jazz, finger food, no one under 25 etc. I keep expecting a relative to come up and tell me how much I've grown. You'll either love it or you'll hate it.

Superb bar, great food, great music and very safe.
We love it
