Paid a return visit to the Lion. This time it was open, but very quiet - probably because of the strange opening times. Doom Bar was the only ale. There's a small drinking area at the front of the pub overlooking the busy A road and another enclosed patio area at the rear. The place doubles as a hotel. But nobody was at the reception desk. At least it was open this time. But I wasn't overly impressed.

I was amazed to find this pub was closing at 5pm on a Bank Holiday Monday. We followed another family in and whilst they were served, we were told that they were closed. I guess you have to be in the know. The barman/landlord said he was locking up. But after visiting the Lion and returning past the Bell, there were still people drinking outside the front. Very strange opening times and discrimination against non-locals means I have to give this a 0/10, as a beerintheevening is not possible unless you are 'in the know'.

Had lunch in here while en route to the nearby waddeson manor (which was superb by the way). Had a delicous pint of breakspear, and gf wine was tasty. However, unless youre on a diet dont bother with the food. Had the smallest piece of fish I have ever seen, and since when did it become necessary to serve chips and mushy peas in small ramekins rather than just splodged on the side? Only reason is to give you less for your ten quid. Disappointing! Landlady waited until wed left before clearing the plates as I think she may have overheard my thoughts to gf.

Beers good condition but expensive - Doombar and Brakspears but couldn't agree more about landlord - not interested in customers!

A nice place but completely overshadowed by the arrogant landlord -will never visit again

Hmmm - strange pub this one. It is trying to be a cosy pub but the interior suggests where the money has gone from the over-priced Kingsmill sandwiches - on the furniture and panelling making it 'feel' like a country manor pub but not in reality. The B&B accomodation looks inviting but the range of beer didn't. They could capitalize on the Bell pulling its finger out and do the same with the atmosphere. The staff were polite though and my beer was fine.

June 2007. Quite loud music (for a village pub) of the sort that was for the pleasure of the bar staff not the customers. The guest cask ale (2.90) was very stale and short measure. The Pride was O/K but one does not go to Waddesdon for a London Beer. The interior conversion (furniture) was inappropriate to the pub. The food (lunch) was pretty grotty, standard Brake Brothers type at top ticket price. I can find nothing to commend this pub comapared with alternatives.

Good Food, but vegetables have problems as previously described. Real ale (Tribute) was distinctly 'off'and cloudy, changed OK but the pump was left on for the next mug. I noticed most customers avoiding the ale, not hard to see why. Excellent Stella Bock.

Visited this pub Dec 2006. Looked promising with good decor, ordered traditional sunday lunch meat and yorkshires looked good but veg came separate to share and was undercooked, roast potatos had been deep fried and it was a struggle to cut them and keep them on the plate! Puddings were not very imaginative and overpriced for what they were. service was ok but not overly friendly. Wouldn't visit again.

Good all round village pub with overpriced standard pub food. Excellent service though. (24/8/6)
