A traditional pub with decent food and a good selection of cask ales. An outside seating area overlooking the Humber too. Worth the walk across the dual carriageway.

Ignore my previous comment. We all make mistakes.

Closed years ago. Now “luxury” flats.
No idea where richythemole went but it wasn’t Minerva.

Popular former dockers pub on the Humber. Good choice of interesting ales (and Tetley) and many gins. Multi roomed with plenty of space outside. Mix of punters. Perfectly fine.

Not used BITE for a year. There is no moderation, no responsible person reachable by email telephone or any other means. It is no longer a professionally managed site, nor is it any longer a reliable one. Of course a lot of sensible well-written reviews still appear, and good luck to those of you writing them, but there are plenty of other sites offering a proper service to their users, and their pubs, e.g. displaying correct phone numbers and not fraudulently showing a false number for pubs that don't have one.
|
There is no moderation because no one is in control of this site. The ownership is. . . Let us say, in doubt at this moment. I find it amazing that any company would waste their money advertising on here. As would any member posting any reviews. The best pub review site on the internet just died. RIP BITE.
|
@Charlie_one_two_three I completely agree with you, it has gone beyond the joke now. I imagine the owners just sitting back, while they get their advertising revenue, not giving a fuck.
|
Does anyone care about this site anymore - there appear to be no administrators at all. People add rubbish at will or spam the site. Do us all a favour and close the site down for a while and open it up again under a new team who will hopefully want to see it succeed.

Visited the Minerva in mid-November, late afternoon. Found a quiet pub beside the Humber with a few customers, obviously locals and well-known to the staff. Open fires made for a warm and pleasant atmosphere. A meal was prepared freshly for me (fish pie - excellent!) and I sampled three real ales, all in fine condition. I will certainly call again when next in Hull.
|
Nice pint of Tetley's to be had in here (£2-80), along with 5 or six others. Food was good also. Will visit again.
|
Used to go to this pub regularly was well run and beer was good and always had plenty of regulars, when Scotty had it. Food was very good and always had 2 beers at low price. Now there has been so many wizz kid and know it all managers, the place is often shut down and then re-opens sadly these people have no idea how to run a decent pub lets hope it can find its place as a great Hull pub, but I doubt it. Great location on the Marina and loverly views across the river Humber just needs a long staying good manager.
|
Comfy relaxed pub with well kept real ale. Even has a theatre room. In my opinion this is one of the best pubs in Hull. It's not trendy, just traditional. Never eaten there so can't review the food.

I visited the Minerva pub on Saturday 18th august the pub was quiet despite there being a folk festival on the marina the service was very poor the staff was bitching at each other in front of the customers we found a table of which there were plenty to chose from the food was ordered my wife ordered a steak (well done) I went for the 30oz mixed grill as I like my food after quite some time the said food arrived the food is served on slates the type that were used on roofs the steak had to go back as the chief did not know the meaning of well done the steak still had blood coming out of it the chips well I have had better from bob carvers those of you local to hull will of heard of him I would nor recommend this pub to any one I live local to this pub only five minutes walk away
|
always been the best pub in hull
|
Have been in several times on a Saturday Lunch and i must say the Tetley's was in perfect condition [ i challenge anyone to find a better pint of tetleys anywhere] on each occasion. Not eaten here but the food i have seen looks really good. Not realy full but always has a few drinkers popping in when i have been in. Very much recomended

Friendly multi-roomed pub overlooking the estuary. There's usually two real ales on, always in very good condition.
Pub chains spend thousands of pounds trying to recreate what the Minerva seems to have acquired naturally with the passage of time - a cosy, familiar, pub interior. Not flash, or blingy, but a comfy and relaxed atmosphere.
The council wanted to knock the place down and replace it with something similar to the glass cubes of the 'World Trade Centre Hull & Humber' (You can't make stuff like that up) on the other side of the marina. Fortunately, the recession seems to have killed that plan off.
15-20 minutes' walk from the railway and bus stations. If you're arriving by yacht, it is only four minutes.

Good ale and great food. Well worth a visit
|
A decent boozer overlooking the estuary. 4 cask ales on when I called in. Outside tables and chairs for sunny weather too. Worth a visit.

Yes indeed. The Minerva is back "on stream" at last: absolutely unchanged - except that they don't have facilities yet for payment by debit card, which was something of a blow because I only had enough change for a pint and I was hoping for lunch! Thus repaired to the Mission where all was well.
Seriously - great to see a good pub back from the dead!
|
NOW REOPENED! Has now reopened and is gaining popularity day by day. Good pint kept and phil is trying to get the real ales back on asap. Better than the other two pubs on the marina by far!
|
I visited yesterday and was devestated to find it closed and boarded up - delighted, though, to read dapis' remark about the Council wanting to preserve and reopen it. I joined the crew of Golden Hinde II in Hull in '85, and this was very much our regular during a major refit that spring ... back in the glory days of "Pilot's Pride". It's been my custom ever since, when in Hull, to call in and raise a glass to the memory of my old shipmates now scattered across the globe. I can still smell the tallow and the Stockholme tar!
|
Recently closed down, probably for the duration of the fruit market regeneration. I believe the building is actually owned by the Council who want to preserve it as a pub. Although it's had its ups and down, it's part of the area's heritage and needs to be preserved and reopened. There's nothing like going down there on a summer's afternoon and taking in the view with a pint or two.

I'm a bit surprised that a well-known pub like this doesn't yet more postings, so here's my contribution based on a couple of visits during my stay in Hull a couple of weeks ago.
The Minerva Hotel is a fine traditional pub on the banks of The Humber Estuary, the other side of the A63 from the City Centre. Inside is a good collection of nautical memorabilia and photographs. There are 4 or 5 different rooms, including a remarkable mini - snug that can seat 4 people at a push.
The on-site brewery next door is apparently no longer in production, but there was a good range of real ales on, ( Timmy Taylors, Deuchars IPA etc ) . Food is served until late in the evening and there are special curry nights.
There is an outdoor seating area at the front where you can sit and watch the boats go by, unless it's dark and raining, as it was on my visits.
Well worth seeking out when in Hull - not too far from The Holiday Inn if staying there. It's a 10 minute walk and worth it, even if it's raining

Revisited last week with the family - beer was superb, to complement really good food and an excellent atmosphere. It deserves its re-entry to the Beer Guide, and hopefully the other pubs around the Marina will improve as well.
|
Great setting and lovely, friendly pub - beer range a bit dull though
|
Lovely little place. Good beers, friendly bar-staff, lots of little crannies, interesting and full of character. Not too smokey, no loud music...I may sound like my Dad, but trust me, it's a nice place.
|
A fine ale-house
|
Absolute gem!
After visiting two local pubs with no beer, I was taken here by a couple leaving the [dry] Oberon. My intention was to stay and have one pint then move on, but the friendly staff and locals had other ideas!
An exquisite stout was served alongside Tetley Bitter and Timothy Taylor's Landlord plus guest beers. The interior is warm and welcoming, and conversation rules in this traditional Hull local.
Divided into several drinking areas. Music on TV is at a comfortable level. Thanks to John (Scottish guy at the bar) and Chris (telling all those jokes).
The pub has won several awards in the past and is likely to be in the 2007 Good Beer Guide - a well deserved entry and not before time.
Excellent - recommended 10/10!
|
this pub stopped brewing its owm beers a couple of years ago but the quality of the guest ales as well as the regular tetleys are fantastic.the landlord has changed hands in recent time and the pub is on a incline again back to the glory days. a quiz night is held every tuesday night and a steak night is on every thursday night both night very popular with everyone
|
Real ales consistently good, however freindly reception reserved for regulars. If you are anywhere near the city centre it is worth the short walk as there is limited choice nearby.

are they still brewing the pilot's pride? One of the best pub-brewed ales EVER

The Minerva was built in 1831 on land reclaimed from the Humber. The pub's sign is the Ship's Crest of HMS Minerva, a Royal Navy frigate. When I frequented this pub 15 years ago it had a ship's mast in a room shaped liked a captain's cabin, looking out onto the River Humber!
Mixture of good beers (Good Beer Guide 2000) and good food. A warren of small rooms and odd corners; in fact one of the rooms is reputedly the smallest in any pub in Britain, just enough room for one very close couple. Many paintings and charts on the walls and a collection of over 300 beer bottles from all over the globe. Look up other unique old pubs on: hull-local.co.uk
