Went on a lunchtime. Sadly not drinking due to driving that day, so couldn't comment on the ales.
They advertised 'homemade' pizza, which I ordered, only to be told that the bases hadn't been delivered. Hmm. Not quite my definition of homemade.
Still a pleasant enough place that seemed very popular with locals and visitors alike, as it was quite busy. The food we did have was fine for a lunchtime snack and reasonable value.

Spent a week in Rothbury, 1-8 August and my wife and I ate in the Newcastle Hotel every night except one.
We found the food here consistently excellent. Big portions and delicious. The staff were also accommodating about making modifications to the menu. The menu was extensive and would have taken a fortnight to try most of it. The food was always piping hot.
The staff were extremely friendly. They have started doing a quiz night on a Monday which we tried. It was great fun and well attended.
Now for the beer, which was consistently of a very high standard. I tried, Wadworth 6X, Cameron's Strongarm, Burton Ale, Black Sheep Bitter and Adnam's Bitter while I was there. The range changed about three times over the week. All the beer was extremely good.
In all an excellent place to eat and drink. Highly recommended.

I arrived here in late afternoon after a long walk with my wife and was very wet. The member of staff did not flinch as we dripped all over the carpeted floor, so she must be used to it. Suprisingly the 3 real ales they had on were all from the South. I had an excellent pint of London Pride and the other beers were Spitfire and Green King IPA, hardly an inspiring choice down South but they must be of interest to Northern drinkers. They were due to have Camerons on tap shortly but why not more local beers? Overall O.K.

Full of teenagers getting drunk and fighting. Food is pretty good though.

At last a real ale pub in Rothbury! The landlord changed in the spring and is now stocking a rolling programme of ales NOT pulled through a sparkler. Last night had a mean pint of Old Peculiar as well as Courage best and several others. Please give them your custom -we cant go back to the old days! PS foods good too- great fish!

A good pub,if only the landlord could pour a pint!

Popped in early doors on a saturday a few weeks ago. I may be biassed as I love this part of the country, but even with full ash trays from the night before on the tables, this was a pleasurable place to have a pint and read the paper. I'll definitely call back in next time i'm in the Rothbury area.
