Iron Duke, Hoveback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
I recently stayed here with friends. A good place to stay, too. First and foremost the ale was good. I lashed back several Castle ales. The T.V. in the main bar was a tad too dominant for my taste however, so I blocked this out by knocking back a few more Castles. The breakfast in the morning (Saturday and Sunday that is) was good and unexpected. A pleasant back street pub, I would pop back again given the chance.

Probably my favourite pub in Hove, and that's high praise as within five minutes walk of this place there's some pretty strong competition.
Always has a good range of three or four ales, usually with a local focus. Low lighting, chilled music and an open fire make this a cosy spot for evening drinks. Sunday roast recommended too.

Been living in the area for 2 years and only just discovered this place. What a find, 3 real ales all well kept (Harveys, Tim Taylors and one other on rotation), never seems to be overcrowded, friendly staff, etc., etc... 8/10 and that's probably being mean.

went in here (twice)on simon price's recommendation. first time was a thursday afternoon and it was empty apart from me and the bar man. lovely time, listening to primal scream and dean martin. second time, they were showing football and the pub was rammed full of tossers! dreadful experience. so recommend you go during the week

Needed a good clean, very little hot water and the rooms were cold and drafty, a bad area if you drive as no where to park, felt out of place as we are heterosexual

Diving Comedy? The sea air is getting to me.
|
The first time I walked in, they were playing "Modern Love" by David Bowie, followed by "Generation Sex" by The Diving Comedy. I knew I was going to like it here. Plus they serve pear cider (lush), and we won the pop quiz at the first attempt (our prize being some of their rather lovely Sunday lunches). Fantastic.

Great pub! Fantastic quiz nights. Friendly staff, fun atmosphere. Punters were a real good crowd when I went. Haven't tried the food, but am told by reliable sources that it's very good.
|
Nice and relaxing. Friendly staff and relaxed unpretentious regulars (unlike plenty of the pubs round here). Stowfords Press a real plus compared to Strongbow. Sunday Roasts looked ok but would be nice to be able to get a bite to eat other than at the weekends. Good place to watch footy without the usual morons. Good pool/games room out the back too!

It's about time this bar/hotel appeared on BITE. It's a fine relaxed, really friendly place for a drink, away from the pressure of Western Road shopping torment. Last time I visited, it had a grand piano in the hall. AND it's just introduced a swearbox! Is this a first, anywhere? I shan't say what the rude words are, but fines range from 10p to 1. Obviously I daren't now go there, but this is an excellent idea. I hope the Iron Duke prospers!
